3rd Strike General Discussion Thread

Back then or now

I meant now, but who did play there back then?

I spent some time yesterday trying to figure this out.

You can actually cancel cs.MP after the hit-stop ends for the first hit, but before the second hit connects. It looks weird if you cancel into super. Like Urien gets hit, then thereā€™s a little stutter, then the super comes out. But it makes 1 hit ball a lot more consistent.

Itā€™s similar (maybe the same?) to the timing to get cs.MP xx chicken to hit Hugo.

Not sure itā€™s worth it compared to just doing the LP version though.

2 tilt brothers, old old old school nsj, Nico, gay chubby Filipino guy that uses only female characters, opy, Scott, Enrique, and Cesar who passed away

RIP

I miss him so much even after its been 12 years since he passed

Sucks man.
What was his main?

Jill, Cable, Blackheart

But he liked to fool around with a lot of the lower tier characters too

Oh a MvC2 guy, good taste in characters.

That was the only game they had there back then

Because the hosting was free.

The problem with XenForo was that it had to be on the same server as the front page (since SRK canā€™t afford a second server). This meant that both were slowing each other down.

While weā€™re actually making some money off the site now, buying and running a second server is beyond what we can realistically afford and maintain for now, hence the decision to move to Vanilla which offered free hosting.

Now back to 3S related things.

My local arcade, Quantum, the last one with a semi-decent 3rd Strike cab (semi-decent because the JLFs were worn out), closed on the 31st. This was really shitty because this was the last remaining arcade in the area where everyone who taught me 3rd Strike in the mid 2000s used to play. We used to have 3 or 4 arcades in the area and all had the game, but eventually, they all died out except for Quantum which lived on thanks to being in a thriving mall. Sadly, it seems that the mall didnā€™t want to renew their contract since they renovating and changing their zoning.

Thought Iā€™d ask but this is more of a double check than anything. Kindaā€™ dumb to ask at this point but Iā€™m open to new ideas. I also did a quick search and didnā€™t find a lot surprisingly.

How to get out of mid-screen Aegis unblockables? I was under the impression that you just had to Parry down twice and you can just block normally and I can parry the first hit but I can never parry the second hit of the Aegis.

Going to try to score the PS2 version and practice this.

parry toward urien 3 times

I remember when people were telling me you had to do down parry then forward then backwards or something like that. Parrying backwards doesnā€™t work. You canā€™t parry by pressing block.

Parry towards urien always. Parry towards Oro always (he crosses you up).

If Urien does c.mk for the unblockable, you will have to parry downwards, though.

Yeah I think thatā€™s the real problem is he can choose high or low and either way unless you parry youā€™re going into the aegis. Though I think if the timing/spacing is off you just end up blocking everything too.
He can also just wait a moment and throw off a parry attempt canā€™t he? Aegis hangs out for quite a while when not being hit by anything.

Depends on the set up. Most times, they have to do f.MK to push you back into the Aegis. A cr.MK will only work if youā€™re already inside of the aegis.

What I do to limit midscreen unblockables:

If itā€™s the throw set up, tech rolling blows it up most of the time, so always tech roll if he throws you.

If itā€™s the charge partition set up after a shoulder, Iā€™m pretty sure they have to do f.MK to push you back into the Aegis. One down parry and one forward parry will allow you to escape or throw Urien out of the set up. If he does a cr.MK I think you can just block it and will end up blocking the aegis behind you, too.

If itā€™s the jab fireball reset (where they shoulder early to go behind you), thatā€™s a tough situation. I try to see if heā€™s standing our crouching and parry depending on that (high for standing, low for crouching). To me, this is the hardest one to get out of because you have to decide which way to parry as soon as you land.

Hope I helped!

I already know to quick rise after after a throw into Aegis setup. The other setups I wasnā€™t entirely sure about.

Iā€™m pretty sure thereā€™s a quick rise aegis set up after head butt. Something like headbutt, super, dash headbutt.

Who are you who who who who

Anybody plan on going to Final Round this year? If I get a supergun built, we can have another setup besides the Arcade cabinet.
I bought a CPS3 setup with 3S but I donā€™t even have a supergun, talk about putting the cart before the horse
