3rd Strike General Discussion Thread

@bmckay‌ hugos ex lariat can punish taunt even from full screen, if Q’s fierce punch resets hugo in the air Q can’t taunt safely when hugo has gauge.

Is it better or worse than 3SO in terms of lag?

Here ya go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBOHsUamYLE

genuine climax!

Is it just me or does the second hit of cr.hp whiff when you try to launch from a corner aegis?

Even better.

Anyone know how to perform Sean’s Kara throw? And how much range does it have compared to other chars like Ryu or Aluma?

twds.HP (overhead). It’s shorter than Ryu’s.

Thanks. Looked it up on wiki after I typed comment. But the range is still unknown.

Seems like a Risky Kara throw. If failed, towards hp is very slow and parryable.

I never knew GJ granted invincibility til I watched that video! pity he didn’t finish the series :’(

Range is 14 additional pixels.

Range isn’t that good and is very prone to execution error. Idk if it’s worth it.

Any edge is worth it with Sean. Range isn’t that bad.

if you do the c.hp too early on twins, the last hit of the aegis interferes with the way the c.hp hits. time the c.hp later so that you get both hits of c.hp consecutively after the 6th hit of aegis. against other characters, it doesnt matter as much of the 6th hit of aegis goes in between.

Ahh, all right. Thanks.

So what do you think of 3s without sound?

These last few weeks at Super Arcade I’ve been getting slammed on hard, both with the sticks and figuratively, and I’m starting to rethink an idea I had about playing on ggpo without sound being a nice training regiment when there is no other alternative. I find myself playing much more apprehensively offline and can’t quite react as well I do with sound on. Now I’m not saying that ggpo is to blame here. No. Not really. I mean, sure it still kind of sucks BUT input latency doesn’t cause rollback and I’m thinking that maybe inputs aren’t entirely disposed of anyway. My issue is with the sound itself as a present nuance or the strongest portion of the meta-game instituted fairly. Obviously there’s a reason no one ever mentions the fact that although h2h is a prevalent choice for how to play this game, it certainly isn’t the “hardcore” mode instituted in American arcades or console sessions. So you gotta wonder why no one ever explicitly decides exactly when, yet, we can all kind catch that wave when we find ourselves inside the low forward zone and blocking low. I hate following the other player’s buttons. And following the music overtly just seems like it’d be a bad idea anyway.

With sound on, I find myself not having a problem with whatever they’re slamming or however they’re slamming yet without sound I miss simple confirms, I miss some cancels ( literally didn’t hit strong fierce super and even fucked up the fireball version ) and I even make the same mistakes they do. Then again, I also pick up on some of their more elevated frequencies. I was playing Chris G and, guy, despite slamming the stick and buttons like he’s trying to hammer in the combos, has a pretty good grab tech. I even caught myself teching his grabs too. Something I never do. But I also found myself stuck in a rhythm that I was not familiar with. It might be my ear injury. It was slow and tense but pretended to be something it wasn’t. Like a creep. Very weird. Now I’m not expecting to find anyone here really subscribes to playing anything but “the feel” yet I can’t help but hope maybe the game will eventually grow to a level beyond simple intuition. At least in discussion. So many caveats… I’ve heard/read the Japanese reminisce about them, and everyone here chimes in on them but it almost seems like people are scared to talk about them outside of awe. What’s up with that?

playing without sound forces ya to use muscles in the brain you never thought ya had. like you end up focusing more on certain aspects of the fight rather than relying on the sound. i actually find myself doing better on ggpo when the sound is off because for some reason i can see and react to my opponent’s actions better.

I usually play without sound when I stream, just listening to rap and shit like that. Doesn’t affect me. in fact I think it makes my online play better because I’m not being fooled by hit sounds when they block.

I can’t play without sound

Sound latency on ggpo and sound rollbacks on OE really fuck with me. Can’t confirm any single hit confirms online on either platform.

Also sound probably helps you react with counterpokes
