3rd Strike General Discussion Thread

Akuma and Chun. I’ll admit I’ve only heard of funland akuma but most notable canucks use Chun.

So you’re implying Rikimaru > Kuroda? Lol

I don’t think EITHER of us could imply anything either way but the general consensus by top Japanese players is that Nuki, MOV and Rikimaru are top. But obviously you know better

What character did Marko play before Chun-li?

With those 3 it seems more a judgement of event success not necessarily pure ability to play.
though i really have no idea. i just find it hard to believe kuroda isn’t seen as remarkable. the guy has his own video/interview series now…

I don’t know too much about the top players, but what I do know is that Rikimaru (or MOV) plays the best Chun . He’s beyond rock solid with the character, he’s like diamond solid. Top of the top.
Kuroda has an incredibly deep and comprehensive knowledge of the game, can read opponents really well, and has good execution, both in combos and red parries. However I don’t think he’s ever really applied himself to one character too much, instead learning to play almost every character at a high level. I’m pretty sure that Rikimaru would beat Kuroda, no matter which character Kuroda would play, due to Rikimaru’s experience.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Rikimaru is relatively new to the game. Meaning that he hasn’t been around as long as many of the top players, including Kuroda. Also, correct me again if I’m wrong but I believe even MOV and Nuki, well maybe not Nuki, would say that Kuroda is THE best 3rd Strike player. I have heard it to be said many times before.

As for the general consensus, I don’t think anyone not reading leader boards is in any kind of position to make that kind of statement. Unless, of course, one is just going off leader boards. In which case, isn’t Nitto supposed to be at the top of that list with MOV and Nuki? Like I said, Rikimaru is relatively new to the game and hasn’t had as much opportunity to win these large tournaments. Come to think of it, I recall mention of some PSN player being at the top of the list yet his win count and ratio is much shittier than everyone else around him. You think the whole Rikimaru thing has something to do with that?

kuroda is definitely the best!!

Boss imho

KSK.

You guys really have not the slightest idea how much incredible skill it required to dominate SBO '09 with a super low tier like Q. Zero idea.

Give it a try and play low tier characters for once and see how hard it is to win with them. Every matchup becomes a major pain in the ass. You’ll have a newfound respect and appreciation for the skill of Kuroda. Bow down to his name the next time you pray to the Gods.

Yup the Japanese don’t know the truth about who’s the best in Japan. Only denjizz knows the answer.

A lot of top players have acknowledged Kuroda as the King of 3s including MOV and RX.
Kuroda is so much stronger than any player today its not even close.
Master of the entire cast. The best with at least 6 characters in Japan.

How do you even compare?

Kuroda OCV 3 teams at SBO 2009 with Q. Do I need to remind this again?

Kuroda played Boss in casuals in 2009.
Score was 68-20 (Kuroda)
May have been 5 years ago but that’s the most recent footage out there.

Why do you care that some people think one player you’ve never played is better than another player that you haven’t played?

The hero worship is bizarre. It’s like I’m reading the comments section of kpop news blogs! Replace Kuroda with Super Junior and Rikimaru with Big Bang and bam perfect replica.

Rikimaru has the indomitable spirit and Kuroda is the genius. I feel Kuroda is the best because of his innovation and knowledge but conversely I’d lay my money on Riki in a high pressure tournament.

It’s a silly hypothetical anyway.

There are some Canadian Gouki players on GGPO I think but don’t know any other than me that play locally anymore. @Alexisdabomb‌

Dander is right about notable Canadians using Chun though.

Kuroda’s reactions are at human limit or something

No they just have the stipulation of full presence. If he gets counter poked up close he reels.
Rikimaru has Chun jab. Fastest attack in the game, and almost safe even on parry. So the comparison shouldn’t be based on reactions. It should be relent or rather a lack of. The chun players have millions of set ups and they don’t relent from them. Often to a fault. Kuroda has a factor of full presence and always knows what’s going on. The issue is whether or not the other player is going to play in to the “natural flow” of things or instead goes in to one of the set ups he/she has in stock. MOV rarely ever appears to be playing auto pilot. Rikimaru, ALWAYS. He’s had good teachers and opponents, though, so it would make little sense for his ego to relent.
