I think the show is great and Black Bauer is a decent replacement for Jack. I don’t watch network tv anymore and this is one of the first shows in a while, other than designated survivor, that is actually entertaining to watch.
I didn’t get hooked on 24 until season 2. Jack didn’t seem like a good lead until the second season for me. I’m gonna stick until this season ends. 
Jack was never a good character. People watched 24 for how batshit insane the things Bauer did were. If Black Bauer starts cutting off pedophiles heads and torturing people for no reason then we are in business.

I joined Team Bauer the moment Jack tranqed George Mason because he thought Mason was a mole. So about 20 minutes into the the first episode of season 1.

they didnt make her a woman just because. alot of shit got switched around, thats the whole point of a reboot, not to do the same shit that was already done. you got an asian chick not only playing a cylon but also boomer and athena in the reboot.
If the writers for example, had rebranded Count Baltar as a female scientist with the same sexual and weasel-like inclinations as Gaius I would be more inclined to agree; but making Starbuck, who was characterized as an extremely skilled fighter pilot with hypermasculine qualities into a woman seemed like a very conscious effort to redefine classic gender stereotypes.
This was the same reimagined universe that had real world hot topics like homosexuality and race be a complete non-issue with all ethnic groups, so to say they changed things without any underlying agenda seems very doubtful in my eyes.
But like I said before, they got the perfect actress for the job so nothing was detracted from the storytelling.

anybody remember which season and episodes were some of the best? I feel the need to watch some of the bauer power action sometimes to appreciate the real thing again. pretty sure I never watched an episode twice before.

Season 2 is god-tier.
Never fired a gun but even I saw that and burst out laughing. 
Season 2 opening was god like. When I saw that episode that’s when I realized what all the fuss was about with this series
worse part about this new series is that Blauer has had chances to become True Bauer. just last week he was given a choice:
