Try Strider/Strange/Dante. It’s a theory team that’s been cooking in my head for a while but never really got the chance to try it out extensively, since I’ve been busy with IRL stuff.
I also heard someone say Strider/Strange sucks at rushdown, which is… lol. If you can at least come up with some mixups, that would be awesome. Strider should have a ton of setups with EoA/Weasel Shot or Bolts/Jam.
The issue I see with Strider + Strange is that Strider doesn’t do a good job of babysitting assists, especially giant ones that stay out for years. Gram H can buy a little time but it doesn’t stop projectiles in motion.
I’ve had a lot more success running him with quick ones like Disruptor or Tatsu. If you can ever get them to block a s.H while you call a fast assist, you get at least 1 or 2 mix-ups off it. And it’s pretty easy to make someone block a s.H.
Strider/Strange has some nice combos though. Bolts lets you just rail people with multiple Form B Shots (high damage) in the corner.
I remember mazio talked about strider/magneto/ammy
I like the idea of that team a lot. Disruptor is great for strider as it is for any quick left-right characters, and it prevents too much scaling. Strider can easily tac infinite into magneto from anywhere on the screen. Coldstar is also very strong for strider as shown numerous times by clackwerk. Magneto also benefits a lot from cold star. It seems like a solid team overall. It’s also always nice to have a team with 3 great anchors as it increases your chances of winning if they decide to snap for whatever reason.
What do you think about Strider/Jam Session, though? I was thinking Bolts could be used for long distance approach or just derpy assist + teleport stuff, while Jam Session could be used to create a ton of pressure up close thanks to the blockstun. I’m thinking you can also do some tricky overhead + crossup stuff thanks to the pushback on Jam Session. I tried it with Strange but his air normals are just too awful for that purpose lol.
Yeah, that team is pretty strong especially if you get your TAC infinites down. Cool thing is that it doesn’t really get predictable seeing as Strider can always put you in multiple mixup or reset situations instead of just ABC into TAC all the time, especially with great assists like Disruptor and Cold Star. The Strider/Magneto DHCs are awful when you’re not going into Ouroboros, but whatever.
First of all Magnetic Blast recovers immediately upon landing. It’s not 35 recovery frames if you are doing boxdash or normal jump blasts, in fact it’s much less than that and it’s actually very hard to punish. Super jump Magnetic Blasts are slightly unsafe when landing when them, but they are relatively safe and cover his approach vs non wavedash characters, Magneto can play it safe and airdash upwards/uf/ub and fly to reposition himself safely as he recovers fast enough after the first superjump blast. Magnetic Blast is his strongest zoning tool and zoning poke(Disruptor is his best anti-zoning tool).
The issue with Magnetic Blasts is really matchup dependent. Characters that wavedash well(ie Dante/Wesker/Vergil) have no problem going under superjump Magnetic Blasts and punishing them or putting Magneto in a wave dash under 50/50 when he lands. Box Dash Magnetic Blasts are very good and safe in those matchups for example but not really safe vs characters who’s normals hit him during activation, ie Shield Skills, Charging Star, Hulk/Nemmy stH, Sent stM. So really punishing Blasts is matchup dependent, but there are certain variations in most matchups that characters struggle to deal with.
Jam Session is great for him and gives several mix-ups in a row, similar to how it works for Zero. It starts with a few different ways to left/right and then you get some high/lows in there too.
The final ‘push’ of a blocked Jam Session can send them flying under you for another cross-up as you might expect. Strange’s air normals may not be good for it, but Striders work great for it combined with his weird double jump.
I’m sure he can do some nasty stuff with Bolts, I just think you’ll have to be very careful about when you call it.
