Spiral and Blackheart were easy to use… but they certainly weren’t better than Sentinel and Magneto because it was possible to drop fly cancels and Roms.
You want to use human error to defend your placement of simpler characters over more technical ones, but ignore the primary reason that these technical characters usually lose (human error)? No significant error, Zero OCVs. Fatal error, Zero loses. But within the course of that match, Zero could make numerous errors and still maintain the upperhand.
Vergil Doom is great but Doom Vergil is DHC or die in a lot of matchups.

MODOK’s ability to give 0 fucks at the start of the round has helped me get my momentum started against better players on a number of occasions. I can imagine that a high level MODOK with an optimized team would give people headaches from pools to grand finals.

If the thread were moderated we could at least delete all the sarcastic posts. That would help a lot. Number 2 could go away if people spent a lot more time working on their posts, e.g. DevilJin’s tumblr post (DJ, you need to get a place to post that without pictures of your gf/sister or whatever at the bottom). Number 3 will likely never go away because people love attempting to prove that they’re right by beating those dead horses.

The biggest problem with using execution as a ranking factor is it is very subjective outside of truly impractical/near-impossible things like Viper :s: feint :s: infinite or Skrull tenderizer infinite. To me RR’s boulder loop is nearly impossible even after hours of practice but RR mains hit that all the time. Hyper Grav loop took me longer to learn than anything I have ever learned in a fighting game (SF4 Chun’s leg loops, Zero’s lightning loops, Magnetic Blast combos, even Marvel 2 ROM were much, much easier for me to learn) and just about every Magneto will tell you it’s really easy. If you don’t play a character and really put time into them then they are going to feel awkward no matter what unless they were specifically designed to be simple and intuitive, but it doesn’t mean they are actually hard; this is probably the only reason people think Viper and Jill are hard - they really aren’t.
Also there’s so much passive-aggressive dick-waving and so little precious actual discussion in this thread that I was barely able to read through it - and there’s only 8 pages of it, meanwhile I’ve read every post of the previous ~500 page threads. Calm down guys.
Amen - I think people approach this thread all wrong and miss the value it has. There is no tier fairy who shows up at the end of the game to tell everyone who was right and who was wrong. Capcom doesn’t magically show up to award Marvel Bucks to whoever was closest. It is all about the discussion and not the result.
The value is in the information. People probably don’t have the time to watch all the individual character forums or see all the streams, but a lot of that information filters up to here as everyone makes cases for why certain characters are better or worse than people think.
I wanna hear about Doom/Dante. Awhile back, Chrisis was swearing up and down that Jam Session is one of the best assists that Doom can have… It’s not a common shell though, which is surprising considering the insane support that your point will get from having these two in the back.
