Hey Super_Yan … Haven’t talked to you in a while so I’ll just say this… I WAS motivated to keep competing, I just have been playing in the larger tournaments since then. As for not playing at Triple Threat I opted out due to all the shit talking that was going on. I opted out of SF4 entirely basically and entered Tekken 6 but somehow Mike Ross got my spot instead of me even thought he doesn’t play Tekken… I dunno go figure… anyways…
I’ve been entering the Underground Tournament League tournaments in Los Angeles and I recently came to the East Coast a week or so ago to compete in the Chinatown Fair tournaments and Battlefield Arcadia against some top players and I have been doing well (placed top 8 for all 3, top 5 for 2 competing against top players such as Sanford, IloveyouJoe, Arturo, OJ, Omar, Jeron, etc… so I’m not playing against scrubs. I’ve been working hard at practicing Street Fighter when I get the time… so while there was a lot of drama and bullshit associated with LOSF, it wasn’t enough to detour me from the scene entirely, it just made me want to avoid female only tournaments.
I’m not sure who all will be entering the female only tournament at EVO. I know TriForce wants all the Valkyries to enter and I’ve seen 3 of the other VOAs competing while out here in NY and they’re training hard for EVO. For the girls who DO enter… I hope they all have that mentality and do their best, but most of all have fun. I’m sure the VOAs will continue to enter tournaments after the female evo tourney as well, so expect to see MORE new faces at upcoming events just like you did at Triple Threat.
You don’t sound very competitive if your main reason for not entering a tournament is “there was too much shit talking I couldn’t handle it.” Also, if someone got your spot in a tournament that you paid to enter, that’s when you tap the tournament organizer’s shoulder and say “hey what the fuck?” All this post showed is your lack of motivation and your persistent need to randomly bring up tournaments in which you placed well and other accomplishments, no matter how irrelevant they are to discussion.
Also, I notice you and others place a lot of emphasis on girls entering tournaments. While this discussion IS about a tournament and girls playing competitively, I don’t think pressure to enter tournaments should be highlighted so much if the goal is to get girls interested in the game and in the FGC. The real emphasis should be placed on girls entering the scene first… tournaments come way later. We’re doing it backwards.
Okay this is seriously stupid. Why would there be an only women’s championship? Wtf is this, God’s Garden? Fuck that shit, girls, women, whatever just fucking join a regular tourney, it’s no different (unless there’s some gene in women that proves women can’t play fighting games). Women can play just as good as guys as long as you put your mind to it. I just think it’s stupid, the fact that women are probably treated different in tourneys. I find it stupid that people made a big deal about girls playing fighting games, fucking get over it. I went to a tourney a few weeks ago, small, and I’m not gonna lie, I got owned lol. But I thought it was an amazing experience, seeing as how it was my first tourney and the guys didn’t treat me any different. If anything, I thought they were just going to be dicks and shun me. That just goes to show that being a female and playing fighting games isn’t any fucking different from being a male and playing fighting games.
Why should there be a seperate branch for women? Honestly, people are making a big deal out of it. I agree with Super_Yan, that’s how it is though in they eyes for some guys. Just join a regular tournament full of guys if anyone who is reading this is some stupid femmenist.
Very well said. I don’t know why the general consensus is that women can’t or have some brain handicap when playing fighting games. I think any female, who dedicates the time to anything, can do whatever, so that biased ish is just pointless. Separating the females from the guys is pointless imo and when I first heard the announcement of a female only tournament this year, reminded me of some “colored folk have their own water fountains” back in the day shit. Super Yan is right too in most of that argument. Furthermore, I think it’s shit how a large majority act when females play. I know when I played sf4 heavily, nobody could tell I was a ‘girl gamer’, I was just a player. Then I got a mic…and once I left it in, not paying attention, and laughed because some idiot was throwing out random fullscreen away dhalsim supers (for whatever reason) and once his ass lost, he sent a message saying, “Good job tranny, you win.” Sooo just because I don’t play like a complete idiot, I’m a tranny?
Idiots exist everywhere. I don’t agree with the way things are being done. There’s better ways to spark female interest, or else the credible girl players these days wouldn’t exist.
Godsgarden ended up merging the female tourney and beginner’s tourney. I actually think a beginner’s tourney would probably be a better idea, as long as we ban Reno first!

I don’t see how the female tournament could have reminded you of “colored folks over there” when the females can enter the regular event. Not only that but they are forced too. There are ways that you could relate this to the colored folks era but it’s more so about the positive things that women can do easily today to choose or not choose to enter the event. It would have made more sense if you said you could relate it to Rosa Parks not riding the bus. U don’t have to do what you don’t want to do and that’s what this tournament emphasizes. It’s a free choice whether or not you choose to enter and ultimately it is just there to show that women play whether it’s unnecessary spotlight or whatever. Black people didn’t get to have a spotlight put on them to show what they are capable of in those “colored days”. They just simply “did their shit over there like theyz supposed to” and got waterhosed. Nobody even cared.
Now it’s a bit of a different context when you say you don’t want people putting the spotlight over you in a video game because it makes u look weak or obvious but the “sad thing” is that there are actually people who genuinely care whether its for your personality, looks, overall skill or all of the above that you are a woman playing fighting games and Evo has seen this. People will say “yeah about 20 fucking pervs and 3 other people” but at least those 3 other people honestly care about you. In reality it’s actually way more than 3 people.
Though you can’t relate the solidarity of this tournament to black people when the women can choose not to enter. That’s just stupid to think. Really hate talking about the politics but the only thing I hate is when people look at the tournament like the tournament is putting women in the same light as black people in the 50’s with no choice in shit.

Yeah I just wanna make sure people don’t get this shit twisted like it in any way corrolates to “keeping women over there” like the blacks. Shit is like night and day in the differences. This is Evo not the KKK. LOL. For me it’s sick to think that anyone would even think that way about a video game tournament. Well I think to say that this event is similar to segregation of African Americans back in the day is a stretch and isn’t really recognizing those times for being as cruel as they really were. But, kind of like you said I think, my initial reaction was “wow… this is… um… segregation. At Evo? Really?” and I brought up the whole comparison to other races not to relate it to the civil rights movement, but to point out that the idea is just as stupid as the idea of giving a certain ethnicity their own tournament. For example, I think the idea of giving girls a seperate tournament is just as stupid as giving Mexican-Americans their own tournament. It’s pretty much the same thing but no matter how many times I point that out nobody here ever explains how it’s different. Not even DevilJin who writes posts longer than mine.
And lol at what you said about the mic on SF4. The same thing happens to me when I play Halo on XBL. I’ll call out where a sniper is or something and they’ll be like “omg shut the fuck up kid how old are you 8?” but it’s really fun to mess with those people so I don’t mind it. The annoying part is if I did poorly people say shit like “man that’s what happens when you have a girl on your team” but if I get MVP they figure I’m an 8 year old boy. Really? Well said Xanoz! Makes no sense to make a tournament just for females. Women are no different from men when it comes to any game. I’ve gotten banned off servers in games like Counter Strike just because they thought i was an aim botter with a mic who would get headshots all the time. It’s that kind of BS that makes me try harder. I’m sure that there are females out there that aren’t serious though. Fu%^&*^ attention whores who just say that they play video games, then they drop it. Funk dat, I’ve never been one of them and I never will be, I actually have a passion for Street Fighter and I try. Though I’m not here to argue whether or not this is any worse or different than having a Mexican American tournament. I’m just saying that inevitably there will be people that will enter it and will find it fun and that’s all that really matters especially since you have a direct choice in what you as a woman wants to do with the event.
Now that you bring it up though…since I’m not all big on laws and stuff like that. If Evo WERE to do a Mexi American event (that they could choose to or not to enter and be forced to enter the regular event) would it be legal for them to do so like it is for them to create a tournament that only people who identify themselves as women have access to?
Uhh of course it would be legal if it was ran the same way as this tourney, why wouldn’t it? The point isn’t if it’s legal or not, the point is the idea of having a Mexican-American only side tournament is effin retarded for the EXACT same reasons having a women-only tournament is. “There aren’t enough x- or y- or z-type players in the community, let’s give them their own tournament” this is the logic you’re using for justifying this tournament, and it can be applied to ethnicity, religion, sex (the past 11 pages), and even hair color. No matter which one you choose to apply it to, it’s just as ridiculous and insulting as the next.
