Just use it as the basis for work, the dimensions are correct, and the stick/button placement is copied from original template. No need to draw in the buttons when you make it.

i’d help you out, but you know more about photoshop than i do. 
it’s not too bad, but honestly, i think you have way too much going on in the background with all those lines and stuff. i think it takes away from the piece in general.

I think the font + texture of the font need to change. After that, it wouldn’t look too shabby on a wooden box. Also, by the measurements + DPI you asked for I think your picture isn’t big enough (if that’s the full-sized picture).
