2 PCB's in one stick - Possible?

Hey all
I’m trying to add a ps1 pcb to my ps3 TE and theres 2 things iI need to know:
Where are the ground and 5v connections? I see one ground connection right under the turbo button but thats it.

I’m preparing to do a PS3 TE and Madcatz arcade stick dual mod using a DPDT rocker switch, and have a few questions I hope people can answer:

1 - I have searched but can’t find a pinout diagram for the PS3 TE PCB, in particular, where the 5v, ground and home button solder points are.

2 - Can I split the 5v and ground from the USB to both PCB’s or does it have to be from solder points on both PCB’s?

Thanks for your help!

Is this just not possible?

Hi pals… I’ve been searching the posts and found nothing useful to one issue of mine.

My project is doing (or rather, finishing) a dual PCB stick. I used Xbox 360 Madcatz 4716 wired & common ground (the trigger hack still pending, since both appear as “pressed” - I’ll follow Toodless Transistor method before inverter chip) and … there comes the problem…

Infamous Thrustmaster 3-in-1 PS2,PS3 & PC pad… supposedly non-common ground, is it true?

Too much reading, asking Bencao74 who suggested me Xbox 360 Pad piggybacking instead, but I have the aforementioned PCB open and half wired…

So there come my three questions:

  1. Is there a scheme of the PCB soldering points? I’ve have a very simple one with not much info on it (just a draft with ballpen marks).

  2. Is there a n00b, stupid-proof way to, in case of NOT having common grounds, to make them common?

  3. Should it suffice with a 3-position electric switch to put ground through it to choose the PCB… It is for 2, but, could it accept a third Xbox PCB in a third position here, not leaving a neutral, but position 1, 2 and 3?

Thank you.

Hey Omega…

First things first…if you want to keep things simple, you’d need to make sure your pcb’s are common ground. The rj45 method used in that thread is straight-forward because the MC Cthulhu has the logic built-in to figure out when it’s properly plugged into one of the supported consoles. Two USB-based connections are pretty basic since the only thing that needs switching is D+ and D- … hence the DPDT. I think what you’re looking to do would requre more complex switching, as the PS has 5 lines dedicated to I/O whereas usb only has 2. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

Lastly, assuming we’re dealing with 2 CG boards, indeed both Vcc’s and both GND’s have to be connected. By the way, none of the data-related stuff is an issue if you intend to use separate cables…just be sure only one is plugged in at any given time.

Dark, I think you’ll have better luck in the Padhacking or Fightstick threads:).

First question - I suggest above post:).

Second question… either will do, just preference. You can jumper the points board-to-board, or butt-splice them both straight off the usb cable’s V+ and GND wires.

I’ve sorted it all now except for the home button solder point.

im having trouble with my setup HRAP3+Xbox360 madcatz 4716+ imp. The ps3 side is fine the xbox360 side just lights up for a moment then nothing happens. help?

Just did my first dual mod on the HRAP 3 but im having trouble. Im using a HRAP3+Madcatz 4716+IMP Setup, The problem is on the xbo360 side. It lights up then shuts down and nothing happens. I believe i wired it correctly based on a guide posted here.
Here is my setup on the madcatz side

The blue points are the signals that i connected to the HRAP3. I Connected the guide button to the home on the HRAP3 and Guide on the imp. I connected the 5v to the HRAP3 and connected the d- and d+ to the imp abd ground to the HRAP 3. Is there something wrong? It just lights up for a moment then nothing happens.

The imp side:

I didnt connect one of the black wires on the usb to the imp (The thicker one i think). The 1d+/- were connected to the xbox360 madcatz and the 2d+/- to the HRAP 3. Would it matter if i switch the Xbox360 to the 2+/-

Please help really desperate

Does anyone have an image of the Tekken 5 Hori Stick’s PCB? One where it is labeled with ground, voltage and directions? I just recently got this PCB for a dual mod that im trying to do but I am unsure of where to solder to. Im pretty sure its been linked here before but I searched (Unless im using the wrong words) and couldnt find what I have been looking for. Sorry for asking and thanks for any help.

Also the mod is this pcb with the xbox 360 live arcade retro pcb.

Once again sorry if its been linked before.

okay now i think the imp is the problem. I switch the 2d+/- and 1d+/- . And now the xbox360 side works while the ps3 one doesnt.

If you are modding a T5 at all, you should hit up THIS thread.

Aren’t you suppose to hold a button or something to choose which pcb you want to use? Are you doing that?

The Realyst, thanks for the help, i appreciate it.

I’m planning on making a stick with a FS3 PCB and a madcatz PCB but I havn’t got the madcatz yet and I was wondering if I should start work on it or wait til I have both…

Hey, I dual mod my stick for the second time because of a faulty pcb on the TE when I did on the first. Now that I did whenever I play my turbo and guild button light up randomly for both 360 and ps3 when I play on it. Also the 360 the lights keep going off like i’m losing power. Any suggestion or you think the board is faulty also? the ps3 works fine just random lights on the TE lights up. I have a 360TE with a Cthulhu.

Im having a similar problem, but I have a PS3 TE and a PS1 pcb.

(if someone could tell me what ps1 psb im using that would help too)

The ground from the TE joystick is connected to the ground on the pad’s joystick ground.
The 5volt from the TE is connected to the supposed 5 volt on the pad.

At 1st, all the lights on the turbo would stay light up, then go back to normal. It stayed normal for a while then all of a sudden, the controls locked up in the left position (the stick is not being touched while its locked on “left”).

i have another wire attached to the ground of the TE but not on the ps1 pad (its kinda just tucked in a corner).
If I put this wire on the 5v connection on the ps1 pad, it retarts everything (the turbo lights go back on and the controls unlocks). I honestly have no idea what I should do to fix this.

I’ve got a strange problem with my dual mod. It’s a 360 SE stick with a ps1 pcb. I did the mod around 3 or 4 months ago and it’s worked fine until last weekend. Out of nowhere my B/O button just quit working.

It wouldn’t work on either system. I checked the button, it’s fine. When I’d bypass the dual mod on that button it everything worked fine on 360. I pretty much tracked it down to the O button on the PS1 pad. If it’s connected, the button won’t work on either system, without it, it works on 360.

It’s like the button got grounded somehow or something. I’m thinking of scratching off a new contact point and solder the lead there…but I really have no clue if this will fix it or what the real problem is. Anyone have any ideas?

Well here is my final ever internal dual mod (I’m up to 3 dual mods [360 TE, 360 SE and PS3 TE] and 1 custom now!):

Only other planned mods is to replace the buttons, art and plexi on the above TE (need to decide on the art and theme, any advice) then I’m done for good

Hey Dan…

First of all, it’d all be easier to check with a multi-meter:). Barring that, what you’re describing could be a bad solder/oxydation. When a solder joint starts out poor and oxydated, it tends to degrade until it just stops conducting. I’d try de-and-re soldering signal and ground for that button on the PS board before scratching any trace. If that fails, I think you’ll have better luck in the padhacking thread:).
