2 PCB's in one stick - Possible?

I tried to do a search on this but didn’t really turn up anything exactly specific. So before I try to make a new thread, i’ll post here to see if anyone bites.

I want to do a dual pcb with a sixaxis wireless + AXISdapter + xbox360 MadCatz 4716 gamepad (late version). I’ve read a bunch of posts on similar topics, expecially comments from Toodles and the regulars, but i’m still a noob when it comes to wiring with resistors and switches. The basic wiring of the AXISdapter won’t be a problem and I had some past soldering experience on small pcb’s before.

Has anyone had any luck yet with the exact setup that i’m trying to do? Would you recommend keeping the sixaxis wireless ir would i be better off disconnecting the wireless portion and keeping the usb plugged in?

according to what people have said in this very thread, you can’t do a dual pcb setup with a sixaxis.

I want to dual mod a agetec Green goblin and want to keep the stock pcb. Does anyone know where the 3.3/5v is? Ive looked on some of the mod tutorials but everyone ditched the pcb and went for a new gen system.
Thanks

Ok thanks Milkham, I guess i’ll just make a second stick which i don’t mind, just a convenience thing. Good thing i ordered that 2nd JLF earlier this week :wgrin:

Is it possible to do a dual pcb setup with a MS 360 Wired (Late) and PC Logitech Precision ?

Stuff in my country ain’t cheap and shipping to it is even worse when you’re not that well off.

anyone ?

Why would you want a PC controller with a 360 one when the 360 pad can be used on a PC with drivers?

PC one works on PS3 (or so i’ve been told)

You can’t use any off the shelf USB PC controller on PS3.

^^ that post led me to believe otherwise.

Hi there!! i really want to ask you guys somthing about using two specific pcb gamepads (from xts and psx) to make a functional dual mod arcade stick… these are the pcbs that i’m using now:

http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_diagrams/360_diagram1.jpg -> wired Xbox 360 (early version)

and also i have this one

http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_diagrams/ps1_diagram9.jpg -> psx dualshok H series (late version)

So it is possible to make a dual mod with those pcbs??, thanks for now!

A repeat posting from this thread, but still relevant.

I plan on dual modding my madcatz SE fightstick, so after looking at your diagram on how to soldier, would this set-up work? Sorry for the messy diagram.

So, I posted this in another thread, but I’m sure people that could help me out with this might be in here. I’m wanting to do a Cthulhu MC Dual PCB mod in a 360 SE Fightstick. I’d like to do this with the RJ-45 mod, so that I won’t have a mass amount of cables coming from the stick. I’d actually like to do this with a switch (and not an Imp PCB), and be able to have all the cables (including the USB cable for the 360 board) be handled by the RJ-45 connection, so that no matter what console I’m using this stick on, I will only have one cable coming from the stick at all times.

Would anyone like to do a diagram for this for me, if it is possible? I realize I’ll probably need to do some soldering at some point (such as on the fightstick PCB). Honestly I don’t know, but if someone can diagram this out, it’d be much appreciated.

Apologies though if this is somewhere in this thread, as my time online right now is limited, so I can’t search through everything to find it.

Hello - I have a couple of quick questions:

I want to do exactly what is described in the above picture using a Cthulhu board and Mad Catz Version 4716 360 wired controller.

  1. My question about the above picture is the following. You have the daisy-chained ground going from one side of the terminal block to the ground of all the buttons and joystick switches. Shouldn’t that daisy-chained ground be coming from the ground on the 2 pads? In other words, shouldn’t the black line connecting the “gnd” on the two pads be going to the first input on the terminal block, and then be going from the corresponding output to your joystick/button ground chain?

  2. On this diagram of the 4716 pad on slagcoin it shows 3 ground terminals.
    http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_diagrams/360_diagram3.jpg

Since I know it’s a “common ground” pad does that mean I can use any of them for my ground connection? Or do I have to chain all 3 points labeled ground together?

Thank you.

I recently acquired a Madcatz 360 TE stick and of course I want to dual mod this stick to make it usable for both it’s default system and the PS3 for some cross platform Street Fighter IV action, so naturally I bought Toodles’ MC Cthulhu. The only problem is that I have multiple things that I am still a little unsure about. I tried my best to search the forums for a clear concise answer but I couldn’t find anything so please forgive me if these questions have been answered before. To be perfectly clear, I am a noob when it comes to DIY projects like these so I am trying to get as much clear and concise answers before I void my TE’s warranty.

Here are some facts that might need to be considered before answering my questions:
[]The Madcatz stick is a 360 compatible stick
[
]The MC Cthulhu is a fully assembled board with screw terminals and USB jack

I am installing a DPDT switch, not an Imp board, to determine which board will be talking at any one time
Here goes:

Question #1:

With regards to connecting the Cthulhu to the TE’s buttons. If I use wire tap connectors to splice into the wires running from the TE terminal strip to each button does it matter which of the two wires I tap in to? I saw an example of this on Toodles’ flicker album but it’s unclear if it matters which wire I connect to.

Question #2:

Where/how do I connect the Cthulhu’s home button to the TE’s Guide button? Top side? Underneath or is there an another way I can connect Home to the Guide button?

Question #3:

I know that both boards need to have power regardless of which one is actually “talking” to the console. Is it okay for me to splice the Cthulhu’s red (VCC/5+) and black (ground) cables into the the USB cable that runs from the TE’s PCB to the console instead of soldering the Cthulhu’s VCC and ground points directly to the the TE’s PCB?

Question #4:

With regards to the Cthulhu’s VCC and ground points mentioned above, do I have to use the ‘G’ and ‘V’ columns (just above the USB jack) to get power and ground or can I use the screw terminals VCC and any GND instead?

Thanks for reading.

  1. (I’m assuming you’re talking about the two wires from each button; sticks are different, more in a bit). Yes. Of the two wires going to each button, one is a signal wire, one is ground. You want the signal wire. Take a peek at the distrobution block they plug into. Of each pair, the one on the same side as the little ribbon connectors is the signal. For the stick directions, there are five wires; one for each direction and ground. Tap all five.
  2. The Guide button is labelled on the 360 pcb. Solder a wire there; same as in Bomberman’s directions (my solderless mod with the splices didn’t tap into Guide)
  3. Sure, that will work, if you can get a splice that will work on that small of a wire.
  4. As long as you have only one cable leaving the stick, you can use the VCC screw terminal.

Please help Toodles.

EDIT: I think I’ve figured it out. I’ll post again if I’m wrong.

Success! I’ve finished my Madcatz 360 TE + Cthulhu dual mod after a little trial and error.

Thanks to Bomberman and Toodles for the help and awesome hardware. Now to play for the first time in 4 days!

If i were doing a dual pcb hack, say for instance a ps1 controller and a xbox 360 controller (assuming common ground) would i be able to connect the grounds and vcc via a barrier strip rather than soldering the wires directly board to board?

one question about this setup… im using toodles cthulhu board, and this picture shows the 2 pcbs need to be hooked up together at 5v and ground… my question is is it ok to use the 5v and ground lines on the board because toodles instructions say use the vcc and ground from the usb cable on the xbox. i have 5v and ground elsewhere on the board too i would like to use so as not to resolder those usb wires instead. thanks in advance

Edit: this diagram shows the arcade buttons grounded on a chain and fed into the terminal strip where the 2 pcbs connect… so those are ground wires coming from both pcbs im assuming so why ground the 2 pcbs together again. they should be grounded from using that terminal connection the arcade buttons are grounded and chained into, no?
