1998 United States Fighting Game Championship (Las Vegas, NV)

I read about the USFGC posts a couple years back on alt.games.sf2, and was intrigued by it. This took place around July of 1998, at a time when SFA3 had just came out, when Valle, and Choi were continuing their constant dominance across various games, as well as the rise of Eddie Lee. The games played were: ST, SFA2, SF32I, MvC1, T3, VF3, Puzzle Fighter, Top Skater, NFL Blitz, and Ms. Pac-Man. I think (coming from an outsider’s perspective) this was truly the first “Evolution/B tournament” in that it was a national tournament (and not a regional), and instead of just one game, there were a variety of games (although some definitely had more players in each game). This tournament happened just a few months before Daigo came stateside for the SFA3 championship. This tournament wasn’t without some controversy.

If anyone here that was at this event, please post your experiences, and how you feel, looking back on it.
