1994 Capcom Official SSF2 Tournament -Super Just Games- Northbrook, IL - Game Footage

man, just got done watching every second of the vids.

seriously, im about to get a hold of watson and get him in this thread. cuz that whole “cali sucks” part was hilarious.

its amazing how different the strats are in that game when its all slow. dp’ing far pokes was just way too common, among other things. and wow its amazing how much longer the matches last as well. watsons matches vs jesse just really showed how far advanced socal was with the rest of the country, using meaties, link combos/pokes advanced footsies and fakeouts. it was just funny how well he just knew how to counter all the matchups(guile vs sagat really made this evident).

just imagine if all the info we knew now, all the techniques, and better timing and heightened reactions etc, if we could take it back and see how we would fare against our former selves and vs former champs, to see how much the gameplay truly evolved.

after watching your ken, if i didnt know any better, i would think you are black cuz damn you be liking that “JUICE” with ken!!! never saw that juice kick used so much! but then again, i never saw shorts used so much post CE hahaha.

too bad there was no way in hell my parents would have let me fly out to chicago when i was 15 rofl. i tried to beg my mom/ lol damn, sf was so crack then

wow watson was a lot thinner back then and rocking the mustache, didn’t have a manly voice yet either. I think the video is mislabeled, watson is on the left, jesse h is on the right. Awesome vids.

thanks for the posting. interesting stuff

watson looking like a dirty mexican in the vid. <3

hows that sega CD holding up watson?

I forgot to say, Jesse, there’s going to be a SamSho2 tournament at MWC on Sat/Sun. I know you played that game hardcore, so I’m sure you’ll be interested in that (do you have any SamSho videos?)

Got back from work and watching these videos now.

Although I am from west coast Canada, watching them make me feel as if I was stepping in a time machine, because all of the SF2 scenes around the country were like this.

This is crazy and nostalgic

This shit is top tier.

nice vids dude lol. glad someone got a hold of this cause wes was asking about em. hope everyone enjoys and i hope jesse, wes, and crew are doing well!!!

Awesome

Those were some great vids. THANKS! I was in there… somewhere. This Super Just Games and the one in Chicago were some of the arcades we went to. We also went to Dennis’ in Chicago. Ah, those were the days! I had just finished my final exams and did not get a minute of sleep but drove out for the tournament. I think I fell asleep in my car in the parking lot and never got a chance to see the finals. Now I feel complete.

I also remember this was when I thought that throws were cheap and played Watson on the SSFT2 Turbo game and he was throwing people like crazy and talking shit. I learned a lot that day.

Thank you for all the videos, brings back a lot of memories of arcades back then.

Nickels seems a lot bigger in that vid. Also, that little kid was snappin.

How much for one?

I couldn’t agree more about everything you just wrote. While watching these I kept yelling at myself for not doing certain things. First I have no idea why I did so many low shorts. And the dp-ing or using Fei’s dk for hitting pokes was great to see again.

SSF2 was slow indeed. It makes me wonder how I missed combos and opportunities in some of the matches. =P

luigi: it was bigger back then. that vacant area thats to the right of the arcade just before you walk into the entrance was also part of the arcade. its definitely not as big as it used to be

lol, sorry about the shit talk!! no im not!! j/k.

Last year, a few of us were talking aout how it would be dope if they bought that other side for this year. Too many smelly dudes too close together:tdown:

i think amar(the owner) still owns that lot.

btw, i like the av

Thanks for posting these! It sure does bring back some memories.

Me and one of my friends went to this tourney and it was the first time we saw truly good players. We thought we were really good at the game before we arrived, but we quickly realized that we were just scrubs. It was so much fun, and getting to play the beta of ST was a blast! Good times!

Really? IHe should use it then for sumthin besides storage. And thx:lovin:

wow i spelled his name akar, i meant amar. lol. didnt need all the space due to the obvious state of arcades. probably saving him money not using it, consuming less ultilities and not needing more cabs.
