13th Cooperation Cup

Yes, in the first stage we saw the Marko team.

Ryan, Marko, and Gunfight played on stream. They got beat by either Kokujin or Aiku in the first match, but Ryan reverse OCVed the 2nd team to get to Last Chance quals. Either way, they all played really well. Yuuki was on camera as well in both Pre-Coop and the main event.

Oh yeah, there were some Australian players too. I was rooting for Mike Shabuhei :y

Top 8 to Finals of Coop Cup (Time stamps and team info in description)

Thank you Nica!

You beat me by 40 minutes. :stuck_out_tongue: Curse slow internet!

For anyone that wants the first 3 games that sf3lp missed, you can view my version (if you go to the actual link it will play): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNO1Ok_Xt2E

Seriously, I wanted Taihei Urien to beat Raoh so much. He had the closest shot besides Genki to take him out, and he could have clutched it had he not been so nervous. This was probably the most I felt my heart sink from watching a tourney match in a while.

MOV got lf xx fireball’d a few times. Shit doesn’t work in high level play according to a good lot of you. Get the fuck out of here with that shit. b mk doesn’t work high level play, worked plenty. I saw a bunch of shit that is “easily red parried” time and time again it didn’t happen. Bunch of fucking theory fighters. I’m glad a bunch of eyes were on this but the majority won’t learn a damn thing from it.

All the bullshit aside, it was fun to watch. I haven’t paid attention to the Japanese Scene but not too much has really changed. Raoh looked amazing and Moto(sp?) was fantastic. Genki is still a top dog and it’s always good to see Alex maintaining some form of relevance at top level.

regarding back mk: my understanding has always been Ryan was talking about oki and it’s not like “it’ll never work” just “it usually won’t work.” so in other words if you’re using it in a weird place or you’ve really conditioned them to block then of course you can hit them with it. and the pressure of a tournament situation certainly helps too lol.

it’s just to explain that Ken is a not a high/low character. back mk and low short x2 is not a 50/50 mixup. that should be kinda obvious but for many new players it’s not, so it’s worth pointing out.

during the tournament we also saw people let confirms rip when they were parried. empty jump uppercuts or supers as well.

it’s clear that in 3s nothing is absolute. sometimes something will work even though it “shouldn’t.” which just means you’re always aware of it and can bring it out in the right situation, but obviously someone should not build their gameplan around back mk Ken oki, or empty jump EX uppercut (biggiesmlllzzzzz), and cancelling into super on parry is generally a bad habit.

Your analysis is correct, but the majority of players tend to think of 3S as a game of absolutes and it’s tiresome to see it. Maybe they don’t think it, but they sure as hell type/talk like it is. I would agree don’t make it a habit, but anyone who plays this game knows to not get into habits because you get blown up for them.

edit

Sounds like you did pretty good, Karapalm.

Anyone have videos of some of the foreign players up?

Not to be a whiny bitch but would anyone mind flagging this guys video as he blatantly stole my source and gave no credit. Thanks

Business cards that all the members of Ruu’s team, dressed up as businessmen, would hand out to other players after beating them. Badass.

From KSK’s twitter.

What was the deal when they played KSK’s team? It looked like the guy with the ridiculous shirt was popping off and the businessman team was legitimately angry about it? Did that happen?

Also Ruu’s Ryu play was fun as hell.

This is team no.13 on the entry list, they used their real names to registered T.T
One change is Tetchi replaced Matsuno (DU)

Nah they weren’t angry, otherwise I doubt they’d bother giving KSK’s team those cards. Japanese players enjoy trash talking too, is all.

Bob nailed it. I was talking about in okizeme situations. Kens back mk isn’t dart shot was my main point whenever I said that.

You guys keep track of these quotes in a notebook somewhere or something? Lol

As an English speaking 3S player in Japan you should be aware that your word is essentially gospel to us players who do not have contact with the arcade demigods.

I nodded off while watching the Pre-Coop, and didn’t watch Coop Cup proper either. Since then I’ve been trying to avoid all spoilers of the tournament until archives have been uploaded. I’ve already heard from Hismit that the archives are going to be uploaded on Game Newton’s official YT channel (which is here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIq8ow2OP3mRqWDVm7aRXCA ), but does anyone know if they’ll upload the entirety of the tournament? Or will it just be top 8/16/32?

Work on your hit confirms, son. There is a whole slice of the parry game that involves forcing them to second guess or even manage to make them hesitate if they land a parry. Much of it involves cancelling into invincible moves like upper cut and super to get them to even see the possibility of action post parry. It’s kinda like how some pros can get you with an uppercut on block. Legit shit. I expect 15 millino disagrees, though, simply because this isn’t scrub shit and that’s what we feed them. The scrubs that is.
