You can’t be both. They both worship the same god sure, but the difference between the two is how fucking nuts you are and how blindly you follow the bible. Christians are both of those. Catholic’s arent fanatics about the religion.
I’m Catholic because I was raised that way but I feel like people take religion far too seriously. It isn’t something you should follow 100%. You’re supposed to use the religion as a guideline to be a better person and ultimately be much happier in the end. I mean I dont know if you noticed but religion is where most peoples’ moral compasses originate from. It’s what originally told people that it’s not okay to steal, kill, rape, or commit the seven deadly sins(this one for those who believe in Jesus). Seven deadly sins arent exactly deadly except for maybe one or two, but all of them are bad for your mentality in excess.
Greed because you turn into a self serving son of a bitch.
Lust because eventually you’re gonna fuck around with the wrong woman or catch some disease.
Sloth because being a lazy piece of shit everyday isn’t productive.
Glutton because eating too much makes you fat and unhealthy.
Envy because wanting possessions of others leads to thievery.
Wrath because having your vision clouded by anger in general will leave you unhappy because you did something you regret in the end.
Pride because you will eventually think yourself better than others, which leads to being delusional and stupid decisions.
I forgot what my point is, but you should really only listen to abotut 15 pages in any religious tome. The rest of it is garbage. Whether it be the Bible, Quran, whatever. Take the life advice out of it and ignore the rest. Besides, people who acknowledge it all turn into extremists. Twisting certain passages to mean what they want in order to meet their own agenda and then hide behind the supposed words of that religion.
Freedom of speech IS the freedom to be homophobic, sexist, racist, etc. Policing someone’s thoughts is a job for the government and community now? If someone publishes their thoughts or expresses themselves through marches or rallies then who are you to stop them?
It’s worth dying for the right to be an individual and the right to not be tied down by an ideology other than one’s own.
I think he’s saying he wants to label himself as Catholic but doesn’t actually want to follow any religion. Any benefit that he feels can accrue with that label he wants, but any actual work, discipline or sacrifice he would have to make to actually follow the religion he is not interested in doing.
It’s a common mentality. I bet most Muslims are actually the same. People are all alike everywhere.
When those racists/homophobic/trans phobic/sexist thoughts that turn to public expressions/rallies/speeches etc cause innocent people to die like they do then maybe it’s not worth it? but who cares about them as long as I can state my thoughts.
Actually I’ve kind of been wondering something. How come Muhammad is always drawn like Bin Laden and Jesus is drawn as a white guy? Do Christians really not know that they’re from the exact same area, they are the same race, and that they’re actually the same family line?
Are people going to argue that the Middle East, and I guess Egypt before that (after all people seem to think Exodus is accurate), was just all Caucasian people until like 50 years ago or something?
Did they think it was just a reverse America? In America there were brown people, the whites came and killed them all and now it’s a white nation. Did they think maybe in the Middle East it was all white people until the Arabs came and killed off all the whites and took over the land? Is that what the average American thinks?
In Mexico do they use a Mexican Jesus for themselves? In Africa is Jesus Black? Or how about Indian Jesus, or Chinese Jesus?
These are questions I contemplate sometimes. I think it would be funny if someone made a cartoon of that. Draw Jesus as an Arab in a turban. See how people react.
Even in Bible prophesies it’s obvious Jesus isn’t white. He’s said to be reddish or bronzeish.
Not sure what you guys are on, but I don’t really see anyone attacking freedom of speech. However, there are limits and rules/laws. You can get infractions/bans on SRK for saying the wrong things.
