My problem with it is the ridiculously selective enforcement of it. If you’re going to have those laws, you have to protect everyone. You can’t pick and select which groups and genders are protected.
In an ideal world you don’t need any laws because nobody wants to harm each other, and that includes not being racist or sexist. In the real world that we live in, we know people suck.
So when you have to, as the state, legislate some of that, you can’t say “Oh Jews are protected” and then turn around and hate Muslims. You have to protect both. Or don’t protect either and let people at it. When you protect one you are tacitly encouraged discrimination towards the other, it is a state sponsored classification of sex, race and culture. The protected are clearly superior to the others in that setup.
So either protect them all, or protect none. The way Europe is doing it I think is even worse. As is common when the government gets involved in something, they manage to screw it up.
I mention tyranny of the majority because, also in real life, insulting other people is easy but everybody hates being insulted. I have yet to meet one person that could handle the garbage they spew out when it is thrown back in their faces. I don’t even see it on the internet, I purposely try to needle people like that to show them their hypocrisy, but it just doesn’t sink in for 99% of them. I have reached maybe 1%, so it’s not a total waste. When people learn empathy they become better for it. But that seems an overwhelmingly difficult endeavor for people.
Thats the one thing I didnt get, UK gov going all gung ho about freedom of expression but new agencies aint showing the goods.

Now that we are everywhere, it’s even more likely a large natural disaster wipes out a huge chunk of people. Maybe a tornado, or an earthquake, or an eruption, an electric storm, a tidal wave. Something.

Most people (in the US anyway) are either just plain dumb, or so busy trying to keep their bills paid that they don’t really have time or want to think about this kind of stuff. It’s a sad state of affairs that the stuff they ignore is the stuff that keeps them on the hamster wheel year after year. And the ones that are just plain dumb are usually the ones that are completely in favor of all this military action even though it’s their friends and family who are the ones going over and getting shot up to protect corporate interests.
