Is the opposite true? Will xbox have to wait for ps3, if it comes out there first?
The ability for the next player to pass their turn(or toggle their activity mode in the lobby before a fight) after two players fight would be a far bigger plus than default 4 man lobbies. The less time we have to spend at character select and stage select, the better.
Edit: Simultaneous fights in a lobby would be some sci-fi ish though.
Would making and tweaking it for the PC version first decrease the chances of bugs and stuff that need to be patched on the PS3/360 or would developing and sending replays out to all platforms simultaneously be more difficult?
You mean for colors? No, only Microsoft is brash enough to require that it come out XBox-first-or-never, Sony is nice. Though the likelihood of XBox being first is uh, tiny.
Making replays for PC, aside from the UI, is largely unrelated to making them for console due to consoles having restrictions on where/how/when/how much you can save. PC you can write anything anywhere anytime.
Wait, could that mean Xbox users could get doinked out of colors then, because of Microsoft’s admittedly lame policy?
Is there some way to get the Big Damn Book™ on developing for console platforms and the corresponding restrictions for them without having connections and/or forking over the licensing fee?
Nonono. Zidiane asked if XBox patch comes out first, will XBox have to wait for PS3 to get colors. My “likelihood of XBox being first” refers to which gets the patch earlier. Colors MUST be simultaneous on both, or XBox first. Hope that’s clearer.
[edit] There is no Big Book. There are TCRs/TRCs, which are the things laid out by both Sony/MS as Your Game Will Not Ship Unless It Meets These Guidelines, but for the rest of the stuff…WE’VE only been finding it out when it comes up. If there were a Book it would have saved us a huge amount of headaches and at this point at least a month of time.
Well, I didn’t mean the term literally, but ouch, that sucks.
I know you didn’t, but I meant there is no list. There’s only experience, and that means getting screwed as much as possible each time before someone says “Well OF COURSE you have to have done THIS THING before, didn’t you do that?”
You probably hit all of the things, so you could write that book now! :looney:
How russian of them =[
Dude should charge for it. Lack of proper documentation always sucks.
I know you don’t like talking about extra characters, Mike, but there is something that’s been nagging on my mind lately. In the case of any more characters being added to the game via DLC, would the same art team be the ones drawing the sprites and animating them?
If I’m involved and Alex is involved, yes.
Microsoft & Sony are a pain in the ass for Indie developers, with Sony they have to wait to SCEA and SCEE and with Microsoft you cant release a game/content in other system if It didnt hit Xbox Live before, not to mention the stupid patch for make compatible a third party guitar with the game.
Its like the game Payday The Heist for PS3 and PC published by Sony, the DLC arrived on PC one week later because the nosense of Sony when the developer was telling everyone in the forums that the DLC was ready for PC and they cant do nothing about it.
And Robot Entertaiment, creators of Orcs Must Die series they decided not bring the sequel to Xbox 360, and its because in Steam they can decide the deals and the game went cheap a lot of times so that made the community bigger.
That’s good to hear. I just saw some comics that Alex released for Halloween and I really want to just have more Skullgirls after that.
If? How could you guys end up not being involved with the expansion of this game?
Just wanted to pop in to say that Skullgirls is my favorite fighting game by far! I just feel like you don’t get enough love.
I seriously sit there with my cousin (and friends, but they don’t feel the same as I do) a geek out over this game. It’s also the only fighting game that I’ve invested a large amount of time into learning and getting good at. I don’t mind waiting, it has been a long hard wait, but it will be all the sweeter when the patch/dlc/pc version come out.
Anyways, good job Mike. You have made me fall in love with fighting games!
Keep up the good work!
PS: For the PC version.
I know it is a ways off. But I wanted to suggest that your team creates an in game item for Team Fortress 2 and/or Dota 2 (both are games created by Valve [creator of Steam if you aren’t aware]).
With game releases on Steam sometimes they will release a promotional item with the game that will be given to people who pre-purchase the game. This increases sales as well as gives fans some swag to show off there love (as well as maybe spike some curiosity of others who see the items).
Ex: Give Vise-Versa to a hero in Dota, or Fillia’s hair (Samson), etc.
Thank you again for this amazing game.
Can’t wait for the patch!
Well, one easy hypothetical is: the team gets tired of going broke while waiting around so everyone goes to work on other things instead, then later Autumn decides they want to do something more with the IP afterward so they have other people do it.
Welcome to the business side of game development!
The takeaway? Never give up your IP…except that if you want to be signed by a publisher (that isn’t Indie Fund) you have to, so small devs [with ideas more expensive than Indie Fund can handle] are screwed.
Spoiler
Though hypothetical, this is far more likely than you or I want it to be.
I kinda felt bad for liking that post<>
Well… that womps.
