(11/20 PSN!) SG: Slightly Different Edition patch notes

Optimal Painwheel combos FUCKING HURT. I agree with those damage nerfs, as long as I can still throw -> j.mk -> s.hp. And now I actually have a reason to think about my OTG with her instead of never even needing to use it.

Using it for a DHC extension combo was the obvious choice, I like that there is more to consider now though.

I never worried about her otg… Dont think i will now either with there being even more incentive to reset.

Whoops. I thought they were talking about that whole returning to neutral/non-blocking state at the end of push block part. Reading comprehension skills…they diminish when you’re up all day and night

fucking right painwheel needed damage toning down. she hit like a goddamn truck in the last one. plus being able to reset in a million different ways was crazy.

An extra 3 frames of block stun on everything? What’s that change about?

To help grab resets from being so strong?

Except that that doesnt affect grab “resets” at all…

It does make tick throws a bit slower though and thusly not quite as strong… Dont know how i feel about that… Probably a needed change, throws are a bit to powerful in some characters hands, painwheel and filia being the worst offenders imho.

Probably to help pushblocking.

During certain strings (like some of M.F.'s shit), there feels like there isn’t enough blockstun, so when you try to pushblock, you get counterhit.

^^
extra 3 frames blockstun on bellas j. HP…

…lololololololololol

Low to the ground jump HP into Excellebella must be tried in the patch.

wait, this will also mean that stuff is going to be extremely hard to punish now isnt it? certain attacks will actually be impossible to punish if you block them. even certain heavy attacks i think (filias st. HP is -7 on block currently, which would now make it only -4 = impossible to punish.)

so this means you cant really punish parasoul HP-HP- tear shot anymore? :frowning: besides a whole bunch of other stuff.

in fact i would wager a bet that unless you are able to use pushblock really effectively in order to cut blockstun, you arent going to find it easy to punish anything.

goddamn it…

We’ll just have to see.

It’s not that big a deal is it? Seeing as how you can "mmrph mrph during pushblock, a-la MvC2 and older Versus games."
Somebody please tell me what this is ;_; bufferinputsalphacountersuperjumpickyournose

so what is that then i have no clue. i didnt really play older versus games and only have a very basic knowledge of mvc2 as well.

I started looking at some strategy guides and what not and all I found was that, if timed correctly, you could push block someone into a projectile (and maybe assist) that you threw out and knew the opponent would avoid and “punish” .

I doubt that’s it but it’s something to think about. I need to play some MVC2…

EDIT:

AH HA! Guard canceling! I dont remember seeing it in the update, but in MVC2 you could guard cancel pushblocks to decrease block stun and make unpunishable moves punishable. That could also explain the three extra frames of block stun. It’s to promote guard canceling which would more than shave off the three frames gained.

…or not?

Double

  • j.WK/j.HP are properly pushblock-able in the middle now.

thank christ for that. used to drive me nuts. maybe now i can punish the thing.

The 3f blockstun is to help make things that weren’t blockstrings before blockstrings, and it also does help promote the use of pushblock guard cancels, yes.

However, pushblock guard cancel was mentioned separately, so that’s not it. (^.^) I’m pretty sure what I’m talking about isn’t common knowledge (like suki or guard canceling are), since when I told a couple of top MvC2 players they didn’t believe it was possible at all.

I want to ask if this is something you revealed on the offcast stream that I think it is but don’t want to spoil it ._.

Ah man, I’m pretty rook so knowing even knowing what suki canceling is is sort of a big deal for me. My years spent in vs were years spent blissfully unaware of how to play it well. Somebody spoil it for me, if the pros are surprised I’m screwed.
