(11/20 PSN!) SG: Slightly Different Edition patch notes

I say this with all humility of being a Skullgirls loving, Xbox owner: Skullgirls should just ditch M$ and focus on becoming a Sony-focused game. If Microsoft is going to keep bending this game over the proverbial barrel, while holding up releasing DLC for the console that has ALREADY supported the game, then cut them loose. Not an idea I personally enjoy, but this shit is just downright ridiculous at this point.

Agreed. It sucks for 360 owners, but no point in holding it up while M$ hums and hahs at any attempts to get the patch out.

Well, it sucks that I chose to buy it for 360 and not PS3. And it sucks that Microsoft is pulling that crap, but I’m also frustrated about the whole communication on that issue. At this point I’m considering buying it again on PSN but if the patch then drops a week after I wasted another 15 bucks…

Do it! Time is money, may as well put out the $15 for the latest version with players. XBox version is old and nobody even plays it online anymore.

I have both versions, that way I get to play everyone.

Except since the patch dropped on PSN. If the patch drops on 360 you’ll be able to play everyone until the PC version comes out.

Yeah even if they finally drop the patch in Xbox 360 but you have a PS3 and you play online, its better to get that version, How many players have the 360 version? even the matchmaking thread for Xbox Live was never very active compared with the PSN thread

I took it up with customer support, basically saying that without knowing whether the patch is coming my choices amount to losing money to an xbox live subscription indefinately or losing money to a ps3 + skullgirls purchase which could end up being unnecessary if the patch does come out. They offered a voucher to save on subscription, but nothing helpful for the game unfortunately.

Because the BBCS Title Updates were under 4MBs. That’s where the size limit is. The Title Updates just allowed for the DLC to be used. The confusion comes from our use of the word patch. In 360 terms, the patch is the Title Update. But in fighting game terms, we tend to use the word patch to mean a balance update. But that balance update is tied to some form of paid DLC. You got BBCS2 when you downloaded the paid Valkenhayn DLC or the free System Version Data Pack Ver. 1.03 DLC. But when you turned on BBCS, you were prompted to download a small Title Update that allowed the DLC to be used. SSF4 and MK both used this same system for gameplay updates. Title Updates for other games could also be small changes such as the ones we got for SFxT and UMvC3. But they’re all under 4MB. Now, devs make games with the intention to adjust things so they can do so with minimal resources. Title updates are mandatory, the balance patches I listed above are optional. You can also delete the balance patches but you cannot delete a Title Update. The biggest Title Update (Medal of Honor: Warfighter) we’ve ever got so far is 57.84MB. That’s over 10 times smaller than the Skullgirls one. SFxT probably gets to offer free balance updates due to the paid DLC they offer. GGXXAC+ probably has the R update already in the game so they’ll just unlock it or they will charge for the DLC file. But the mandatory thing we’ll get when we turn on our 360s will be a small Title Update.

You actually can delete your title updates, but you can’t cherry pick them, it’s all or nothing.

IDEA: Withdraw the current submitted free patch and then move on to releasing the color packs on both consoles but with a twist. Attach the 360 patch to the 8-character color pack. That way, we are technically purchasing the patch, and moving all of this stupid, fucking bullshit along. Or maybe if LabZero can get the guaranteed resources (animators, funds, what-have-you) then create a season pass for the “three or four DLC characters” initally intended and attach the patch to the season pass.

OR we continue waiting, which seems the most plausible course.

Excellent explanation! Thanks!

Damn, just read the front page article about whats been happening with lab zero.

I would love a skullgirls 2: Turbo’er version.

I really do hope the best for all you guys. The IP has so much fucking potential. No other fighting game out right now has the freedom that SG has.

any new SF game needs to still pull from that existing universe, same with Darkstalkers, Tekken, Marvel, etc.

With skullgirls anything is possible and that’s exciting. So i do hope you guys at lab zero can continue work soon and get past this shitty hurdle.

I’m really wondering how they are going to be reducing the file size. Will anything be left out for Xbox users?

Have a feeling the Xbox version will be the inferior version whenever the patch decides to drop

There is no way for them to be able to reduce the filesize from 500 to 4 MB.

im certain there wont be anything left out from the 360 patch compared to the ps3 patch. what would be the point of that exactly? spending time and money compressing the filesize and in the end only putting out a version that is not even playable to a vast portion of the community? thats not going to make the game any more popular thats for sure.

probably just some kind of compression techniques they are using. Also it didnt say they were trying to get it down to 4mb, only make it smaller. technically 499mb is smaller than 500mb and then they would have achieved their objective.

Well I read in the interview their priority now is the PC port, I hope they don’t have another issue with publisher or something because I bet send the game to them takes more time than porting it.

PC version may be their priority, but that doesn’t mean that they’re working on it, you know.

Well after the PS3 patch and the Christmas Break I think they back to work, It shows they are working to fix the 360 patch and like the PC port you dont need all the team to do that and the PC port right now is the only way to get money again and It clearly shows they want to expand the franchise.

Mike was saying he shrinked it to ~250ish MBs with the help of the XB pogrammer. IIRC no data was lost in process. Now it looks like MS okay with that but they still need to do all the formalities which will take some more time =/
