Lab Zero are certainly putting that statement to the test anyhow.
So if the patch limit is 4MB, how do games like BBCS get away with 500MB patches like when they updated to CS2?
Was that because it was a disk release and not a downloadable title or because it came out alongside a sizeable DLC?
Wow, so thats the reason for the delay of the patch in 360? the size of the patch?
I remember you said me that is not good to have problems with Microsoft when I was saying a solution for this, well maybe they have these stupid policies because nobody face them.
The engine had to be changed, however. It will now allow a character to go from a being-throw state to standing hit stun state IIRC, which is nothing that any of the current characters can use (I’m assuming similar to post-patch Painwheel’s ground LK command throw). It’s suggested that it was because of something regarding one of the DLC characters, most likely Squigly, for reasons unknown to anyone.
I actually wonder what the legality behind “backdoor updates” like that would be. Im guessing theres a t.o.s. viation there somewhere for the consumer though.
I imagine this would have been mentioned already if you could, but just in case, what exactly are these extra difficulties involved with getting an exception for large patches?
Despite eventually learning to hate programming, this degree in Games Development still has me curious about all this submissions stuff.
If you can’t answer, that’s fine. I’ll just assume you’re a big mean meanie guy.
I think it’s because of the DLC. It was probably pitched to Microsoft as an expansion rather than a patch. The actually “free patch” part came in the form of a mandatory “compatibility pack” when you booted the game. Probably also the reason you could switch between patched and un-patched versions of the game via the options screen.
I’m more curious to see how Arcsys is going to put out the update to to +R for GGAC+. If my theory is correct, they’re going to have to include some kind of DLC and pitch it as an expansion. Or maybe just pitching it as an expansion is the loophole… Maybe Lab Zero and Arcsys can exchange notes.
If they need to give more money to Microsoft to fix this issue, Im totally against it, well even they are losing money now because they cant launch the colours in PSN.
He said it was difficult to add crossplay but for now nothing is confirmed, but yeah I think it won’t happen, the only title with crossplay is Portal 2 because is Steamworks in PS3 but Skullgilrs isn’t and we don’t have another example.
