(11/20 PSN!) SG: Slightly Different Edition patch notes

Lab Zero are certainly putting that statement to the test anyhow.

So if the patch limit is 4MB, how do games like BBCS get away with 500MB patches like when they updated to CS2?
Was that because it was a disk release and not a downloadable title or because it came out alongside a sizeable DLC?

Wow, so thats the reason for the delay of the patch in 360? the size of the patch?

I remember you said me that is not good to have problems with Microsoft when I was saying a solution for this, well maybe they have these stupid policies because nobody face them.

Dudes are working hella hard. I would have given it up sometime last year.

Someone suggested that the patch be converted into “free DLC” for XBLA.

>_>

that’s expensive, right

500 mb is nothing these days, sheesh. Should just put out a patch to download on mediafire and install manually. </wishful thinking>

Isn’t the patch 500mb in good part due to the filesystem changes for the Xbox version, so that loading screens won’t be as long compared to the PS3?

The PS3 patch was the same size, but it could be.

The engine had to be changed, however. It will now allow a character to go from a being-throw state to standing hit stun state IIRC, which is nothing that any of the current characters can use (I’m assuming similar to post-patch Painwheel’s ground LK command throw). It’s suggested that it was because of something regarding one of the DLC characters, most likely Squigly, for reasons unknown to anyone.

This is what came to mind immediately after seeing your “discussions” with Oil R.

with that big an update, i would be fine with redownloading the whole game.

they can’t change the original marketplace entry that’s online now and just make a prompt for everyone download it again, can they?

or its not that simple i guess.:frowning:

I actually wonder what the legality behind “backdoor updates” like that would be. Im guessing theres a t.o.s. viation there somewhere for the consumer though.

So, if you dont own a ps3 it’s probably time to drop SG now. Was a fun ride while it lasted.

I imagine this would have been mentioned already if you could, but just in case, what exactly are these extra difficulties involved with getting an exception for large patches?

Despite eventually learning to hate programming, this degree in Games Development still has me curious about all this submissions stuff.

If you can’t answer, that’s fine. I’ll just assume you’re a big mean meanie guy.

what’s new, huh =]

I think it’s because of the DLC. It was probably pitched to Microsoft as an expansion rather than a patch. The actually “free patch” part came in the form of a mandatory “compatibility pack” when you booted the game. Probably also the reason you could switch between patched and un-patched versions of the game via the options screen.

I’m more curious to see how Arcsys is going to put out the update to to +R for GGAC+. If my theory is correct, they’re going to have to include some kind of DLC and pitch it as an expansion. Or maybe just pitching it as an expansion is the loophole… Maybe Lab Zero and Arcsys can exchange notes.

If they need to give more money to Microsoft to fix this issue, Im totally against it, well even they are losing money now because they cant launch the colours in PSN.

So event hubs is making speculations on the pc port. Are they way behind the times or do they know something the rest of us don’t?

Looks like way behind the times. 99% sure that Ravid(?) wrote somewhere that crossplay won’t happen.

That’s what I thought, too. Read it somewhere on neogaf maybe?

He said it was difficult to add crossplay but for now nothing is confirmed, but yeah I think it won’t happen, the only title with crossplay is Portal 2 because is Steamworks in PS3 but Skullgilrs isn’t and we don’t have another example.
