“When pushblock high, neutral, marvel will leave you in a high blocking state but you’re vulnerable low during your neutral input. Its the same for the low guard cancel as well. If you pushblock low, neutral, your character will remain in low block for a bit. In the low situation you’re vulnerable high.” -shoultzula (the long post in the middle of the page)
He never made the connection but that’s where I got my hypothesis.
Except that according to mike… Hes completely wrong… Unless that is how it works in sg… You give up 1 frame of ability to block in the opposite direction in order to get autoguard.
So basically: pushblock anything then neutral, switch blocking stance= brief auto guard?
To dime: in order to guard cancel you have to be in neutral or at least not pressing any down or back direction. Doesn’t that mean there’s at least a very brief moment of vulnerability?
He’s sorta correct - in the [real] Versus games what happens is when you pushblock high (or low) your block type continues to be the same for the whole animation regardless of what you do with the stick. However you can ADD the other block type ALSO, by moving the stick to the other stance. That’s the part they never got to.
As I understand it guard cancel= pushblock followed by an immediate shift to neutral (or any direction that doesn’t include down or back)
The auto guard happens if you guard cancel then switch to the opposite blocking stance. In other words block high (or low), pushblock, neutral, block in the opposite stance.
Three questions.
Do you have to go neutral for the protection?
Does the protection only last for the pushblock animation?
Does the protection carry over with a crossup?
Edit: by go neutral, I mean wait until pushblock ends and you aren’t blocking anymore.
It’s like this: After pushblocking *anything, *you continue blocking the same way as the push-block animation, even if you move the stick, and can “add” the other direction in with the stick.
In other words, if your opponent is Filia and calls LK Hornet Bomber, and you standing pushblock it, you are protected from any of Filia’s overheads for the duration of the pushblock. You can also move the stick to block low during the pushblock, during which you are now blocking high (from the pushblock) AND low (from the stick position) at the same time. So if you get caught in a Cerecopter or whatever, and you see Parasoul dash towards you, you can standing-pushblock-crouch-guard to protect yourself from f.LP and c.LK at the same time.
We need a name for this. Can I coin Push-Protect? We can PP all up in here.
Do you have to go neutral? No. You have to push-block something and slide the stick from b to d+b or vice versa.
Does the protection only last for the pushblock animation? Yup.
Does the protection carry over with a crossup? I have to test this, but I don’t know any pushblock immune crossups.
ooooooh. so you don’t have to guard cancel. You can just do a regular pushblock and shift the stick directly to the other blocking stance. In that case, there would be no neutral frame of vulnerability.
Oh I see. That’s actually pretty sweet! I should try this out in training mode…
… oh speaking of which…
How do you even use Training Mode please??? Teach me how to control and record the dummy! I’m making things so much more difficult for me because I treat the Training Room as more of a sandbag than actually “learning” something!
Nooby questions galore!!
But seriously, tell my step by step how to use the fancy training room to its fullest.
Just go into Training Options. There’s a setting for “Select Button”, and you can toggle it between Save/Resume State and Record/Play Dummy, or both.
In Record mode, pressing Select once will give you control of the Dummy. Pressing it again will start recording. Pressing a third time will stop recording. Fourth press and on will play back the recording. Hold Select to clear the recording and start over.
