Good shit getting Empire to come down. The only people on the East Coast that can really shut us down in Threes (for now any ways). Yet, like Renegade said we’re not afraid of statistics or any of that other shit and Chesapeake is here to run shit!
Yeah…right now 3S is the main event at C3. Which in some ways is a good thing because 3S for like 3 years in a row now has been the biggest turnout for Evo. So at least we’re supporting the right game. Constantly losing to the Japanese is just out of the fact that the Japanese started playing this game long before we did. Played it seriously too. I’ve been a 3S guy since before the game really took off in the US and that’s why I continue to support it. I more or less feel it’s my duty to support the game that I liked back when no one else gave a shit about it. The underdog game that all of a sudden took off and now it’s hard to find anyone who at least wouldn’t mind pressing buttons in 3S.
That’s just the way shit is down here. The first C3 that I came to (and the first that I can recall of) 3rd Strike was on one small ass tv and people were still holding onto MVC2 and Tekken 5. MVC2 and Tekken 5 were actually being played more than 3S. I can understand T5 but MVC2 is old as fuck as far as a competitive standpoint. The game still has a scene but it’s in small cliques and it was actually interesting to see a tournament where people were actually coming out for something that old. Of course being a 3Ser I was appauled at the sheer lack of emphasis on 3rd Strike (finals weren’t even on the big screen and it was troublesome getting casuals in). Then the next C3 all of a sudden 3rd Strike starts getting hype. I guess between myself asking for 3S to be on the big screen and Jinmaster leaving C3 it just made more room for the 2d games to shine and 3S came out on top.
We definitely are looking into playing other games it’s just the people down here have a real passion for playing 3rd Strike which makes sense cuz it is THE game at Evo. Even with all of the crazy money matches and other randomness with all the other games…people come to Evo for 3S and there isn’t anything wrong with a scene embracing that. The game with the 2nd biggest turnout is usually GG Slash but a lot of the Capcom people sadly don’t even donate money to that tournament. Slash is still outcasted among a good bit of the players because of the lack of accessibility to the game and just flat out the crowd for Slash not being the same people that the Capcom people normally hang out with.
It does make sense to have a drive to be competitive in more than just one game though and other games definitely do get played and there are very few people at C3 that only play one game. They may only have a chance of placing top 5 at one game but we definitely are competitive in just about anything and that’s definitely something to be thankful for. Considering a lot of the other games are games that can be shit hard to find good comp for. I think with more tournaments like these where people actually drive out for comp and more players from Empire showing up regularly…we can learnf from each other and solidify ourselves in all games.
Jody, my stick’s fucking up now too. I couldn’t get down to work 100% when I played last weekend. It’s good to use, but it sucks to fuck up at a crucial point.
As far as “3S and 3S only” I’m an exception. Well, not that it means much, b/c I never was competitive, but I have quit 3S competitively. There’s a combination of factors in it…but it really boils down to the fact that I prefer old school SF play. Who knows what I’ll do.
But, it seems the 3s only players are interested in other games… mainly ST and CvS2. It’s just our job to get them hooked!
I’m not 3S and 3S only either, in fact I much prefer Super Turbo and Hyper Fighting. It’s just that I get to play those games against people even less than I get to play Third Strike; I haven’t played ST regularly against anyone notable since like, junior year of college. It’ll be nice to play it again.
Hey Renagade is there any chance you could run a Tekken 5.0 tourny if enough people show? Considering the new upgrade of space, I think it would be possible.
3D making a comeback to C3? If enough people come down I don’t see why not. A lot of the peepz at C3 play Tekken (really…who doesn’t at least mash buttons in that game?) as well so it could happen.

Well, seeing as we’ve had very low turnout for t5 in the past, but if you guys show up (like more than 8) and have at least two ps2’s w/ tekken, it’s all gravy. Someone will have to run brackets of course. Contact your peoples and get in touch with me if you have an idea for turnout.

Well, the joystick and buttons I need to fix my busted stick won’t arrive and probably won’t even be shipped before Saturday despite the fact that I ordered them four and a half weeks ago, so I’m gonna need to borrow some sticks again. Sucky.
Yeah…I’ve been workin on fixing up my stick for the tournament as well. It was randomly shorting out during the NC tournament and I had re fix the quick disconnects to get the RH button to work more consistantly. Not to mention I’ve been playing way too much Xbox Live lately and that crap is hella throwin my game off. I’m gonna start getting more offline games in and open up my stick one more time before the tournament on Sat so I can ensure that shit won’t fuck during a heated event. Way too much comp coming out this time to be lax the week before the event.
