Again, i agree with you (my 2cents, i’m not a high level/pro player so my opinion don’t mean much), is better training knowing all the shit you learn will stay for at least 1 year
What i’m saying is just that the risk is that popular characters ever under the spotlight (think shotos or waifus) will likey get stuff, but i fear less popular ones risk to get ignored, and that with long times between patches will suck a lot for who main them
One year is fine imho, i just hope they took seriously the duty of patch equally everyone and not just the ones with big/loud fanbase.
Not saying “perfect balance” wich imho is kinda a myth, just they trying honestly to balance a Gief or a Birdie even if they’re not KenRyu or Cammy’s ass =)
this really doesn’t have anything to do with how often the game is updated, but is more about how poor the 0-2 experience is at most tournaments.
if you go 0-2 and spend the rest of the tournament playing casuals with people? that’s fine.
but the vast majority of tournaments will tell you: we can’t spare setups for casuals. or if they do, they only give you one or two and only after they are 75% through with the tournament - and they get loaded with top 8 players looking to get practice in before their tournament matches.
even if you bring your own setup the venue may not be able to support you. most venues are overcrowded, can’t handle 16 PS4s and 16 monitors being plugged in all at once, etc. (if the venue is able to support more setups, then i highly advocate bringing your own setup unless you are not driving to the tournament and it’s difficult to do so)
and if the TO sees no problem with any of this then it’s unfortunate and your only real option is to try to organize a better tournament yourself… which will be hard because you are basically representing less-experienced and more casual players and all the good players will be buddy-buddy with the other shitty TO.
One year is far too slow for balance patches in the modern era.
Ive had 3-4 friends completely abandon the game irritated with how weak their perceived characters are with no hope in sight for any buff patching. If you want to play gief/bison/juri etc the game is frustrating.
I would say it’s safe to say that more of the community it staying because of the once a year patches than leaving. Your friends are an outlier in the situation. You don’t hear every other top and known player disagree with or bitching about any given Sunday patches like you did with MKX or KI. There’s much less disdain over the balance approach for V. The other games aren’t going to bring 5,000 people to Evo and regularly garner 800 plus at the bigger majors.
I really disagree with the changes just for the sake of changing. The game never needed an intervention from Capcom to save it from a balance disaster.
As far as people leaving, well they have been steadily releasing new content, characters and features. That is better for everyone instead of constant changes just for the sake of it.
Question: do your friends play at high level (tournaments and stuff) or just online and casual matches? I’m asking this because at low/intermediate level fundamentals and game knowledge are much more important than tier lists, unless the game’s balance is really fucked (not the case), and no amount of changes will make their lives easier.
People cry about the constant changes that NRS implements. Yet they also bitch about Capcom actually letting people figure out the game out before rebalancing it.
If bitching didn’t matter we would still have crouchteching, hard knockdowns, jabx3 confirms that still leave you in throw/command throw range, divekicks that are plus on block and more ways to pressure opponents that are plus or neutral on block, and dp moves that are safe on block with meter.
Because that was the transition from one numbered installment to the next. In the same way, IV took out parries and reduced damage so that 80% off a reset, o flat out 100% TODs weren’t possible. Or how Alpha 3 nerfed hitboxes in general so you couldn’t just Sirloin your way with low strong just like in A2.
Heck, even non-numbered installments get changes based on feedback. Let’s not forget the mauling Sean took in the transition from 2I to 3S (or Ibuki for that matter).
I agree, that’s why I’m saying that bitching actually gets shit done. 5 proves it. And Some of the changes that are likely to happen at the end of the 2016 CPT are likely to reflect that, and ultra getting an ear towards making hard knockdowns not such an advantaged state shows the trend as well. If anything the evidence points to bitching = gets shit done.
That’s because your friends are probably millenials with ADHD who need instant gratification and have the attention spans of a toddlers. Tell them to go back to Candy Crush.
Considering that they only did something about unblockables in the Ultra version and option selects were present until the end, I wouldn’t say goodbye to AA jabs anytime soon (and as a Karin player I really hope so).
