Zangief vs Deejay

st. mp both far and close are useful. Just don’t try to play footsies, because his pokes are better, and he WILL catch your st. mk with SPD. Even if he whiffs, you won’t get an impressive punish. Just stay the fuck out. For me, it’s essential that my reads are spot on, because I rely on reversal upkicks to get me out of trouble when I’ve messed up and he’s gotten up close.

Gief needs a buff on jab SPD range for sure. I think it should grab across the whole screen. :xeye: Seriously, WTF game did they make that hitbox for UMVC3?? People even churn butter on hit. Fucking ridiculouth RZA voice

Lmao 4th
Lp range is 1.75 while mp is 1.45
Chaining your normals helps, but dont end it with cr lk. You’ll get grabbed.
With super lk sobat it created a rock paper scissors mixup where lk sobat beat throw lariat beat lk sobat and ex upkicks beat throw and lariat. Gief U2 beat backdash all upkicks and back dash and I think ex sobat.
I feel like if lp spd is going to have that much range make it slower, but whatever.
If you play a gief take it as a chance to practice zoning and safe crossups if you’re feeling yourself or have the timing.

Def mix up anti Airs…Geif can somehow beat out slide with Knee drop…resulting in you eating a combo. He has a few other ones that beat it out sometimes too…but knee drop seems the better choice.

Mixing up AA’s seems to keep him on his toes.

Trying to trade with cr. hp isn’t a bad idea once you’ve gotten the life lead.

I know some of you guys missed shaky blurry iphone cam so my channel is back with its first AE vid. Good match vs a solid gief from an online tourney i ended up winning. I attacked him in ways i wouldnt attack most giefs but ive played him a lot so I knew for the most part he wouldnt mash spd or lariat on me. A big key to the gief match is not to throw a fireball when theyre landing from a jump or after they fadc through a fireball, you will get ex green handed if they have meter. Other than that i think its pretty similar to the honda match, you wanna be air to airing him way more than you wanna be standing AAing him or sliding.

he could have definitely fucked you up in that matchup. he let you walk him to the corner and you got to do whatever you wanted. he should have definitely mashed spd a couple of times.

i disagree, jump hk to low short cant be reversaled so if he mashed spd there he would only get hit by the short then the fireball. he could only really reversal after blockin the fireball and that wouldnt be real smart. Only times it woulda been semi smart to spd was after his empty jumps and blocking maxout where i would walk up and throw/mixup attempt and even then i didnt always try to mixup and its a free big punish if i read it with a neutral jump, which he knows i am willing to try to do from our past matches. Other than that i missed a punish on a whiffed green hand where i coulda got spded, but our prior matches prolly kept him from mashing there cause he knows i jump in that situation a lot too. I think he played pretty on point, his spd punishes on block were on point, he only really missed 1 on a badly placed slide but slide is not guaranteed spd punish anymore if its well spaced so he prolly just hesitated. He definitely couldve piledrived me a few times and didnt but i dont think the attempts wouldve been solid decisions.

I need to relearn the Gief matchup. Zoning him is different and I need to learn some new wake up technology. His U2 is dumb. I’m starting to figure out when to EX sobat kick on wakeup. Sometimes U2 will still catch you.

The lp spd is frustrating. I sometimes forget to input the correct block strings and get SPDed. What worked in super doesn’t work in Ae

i didn’t say mash after jump roundhouse. i think he should have walked forward and blocked a lot more. you tried to keep him honest by sobating when he was walking forward. he could have blocked or guess blocked a couple of times and spd your sobats on block. i haven’t played in a while so the metagame might have changed, but i really meant when you were frame trapping with close mk he could have mashed spd so you could respect him and have to second guess when to pressure.

i think i’m just being nitpicky because the match wasn’t as airtight as i’m used to seeing it. lp spd green hand lp spd was a mistake he should have gone for hp. watching it again it wasn’t bad. i just don’t like offensive deejay anymore. it works, but it seems like he’s supposed to be mostly defense. i should probably just switch to guile.

That’s what I hate about watching characters fight gief and trying to learn something from gameplay…Seems like…well he COULDA spd’d and gotcha…or THIS coulda happened…Fighting him is too fifty fifty and I feel like I dont really learn anything (besides spacing) fighting him or watching people fight him…Seems you just have to know the other persons tendencies…

It must be fun playing people who have some rhyme or reason to how they play. The Zangiefs I play online churn butter through every single block string. They’ll either break my block string, or the c. lp c. lp c. lp won’t put me far enough away and I get SPD’ed. Then they stop just as I get hip to their mashy ways. Do you understand what it’s like to play people who do random reversal spam and mix it in with knowledgeable play? I feel like I’m playing low budget Alex Valles online. Couple that with lag, and some missed anti-airs and it’s dead man walking. SMH

Da Knut if you want the video is in my channel already, DJ vs Guile.

Scariest thing is a Gief have Ultra 2, and beat you on the ground, you either DIE on the ground, or eat Ultra 2 and die.
and jump fierce is best when Gief jump back, my god that is like Abel jump back fierce but better.

Fighting Gief is bad? wait until you fight a Makoto user know what he is doing…that is one of stupidest character in the game.
