Yes it does. I just tested Gief’s options against the Demon Flip Throw os SRK in training mode; the only two options that work are a forward jump and doing a jump-canceled Lariat. Don’t try either of these options everytime though; I think both Demon Flip Kick and meaty Palm beat both of these options.
What do you do against a Boxer that just sits there and turtles all day? I played against a friend (who is much better than me at SF4), and he was crouching the entire time waiting for me to make a move. I couldn’t jump or I would eat a cr.hp, can’t just walk up to him because he would just jab like a madman, and all versions of GH are unsafe.
Walk up and SPD him outside of his jab range.
Also rogs tend to jab jab sweep you can beat sweep with kkk lariet. So block the jab jab then hit kkk. The only issue is this leaves u open for headbut if he doesn’t sweep. Also learn to spd/ultra any blocked headbut. The key to this match is life lead get it and make rog come 2 u. It’s a shitty match up I would say 4-6 at best if they know to turtle. If they don’t have charge I like to jump in at the range where if u empty jump his anti air punch will wiff and u can ultra or spd. If anyone has anymore tips I am open to listening because turtle rogs are tricky.
I’m pretty sure this match up is in gief’s favor 6-4… The key is to just bait them into doing punishable things. If they just sit there. walk in and out of their poke range. They’ll throw something out, if they don’t, do what jasonC said and just jab SPD them. Sounds like you just need to play better footsies with them.
What if rog doesnt mash jab and just sweeps you when you get close??? You could randomly throw out kkk once you enter sweep range (which is a huge range) but if you whiff it = headbutt -> ultra or at least a free sweep. I don’t see this being an advantageous match up if the rog knows how to turtle well. I’ve even tried throwing a whiffing st RH and a cr MK to enter spd range only to get swept on reaction once i initiated either of these moves. You try to whiff gh in front of him and he is ready with a jab combo into headbutt. I tried st lk to counter poke his sweep, but i might hit him twice for every sweep he hits and that isn’t a good trade.
Ok did some thinking and some time in training mode and Rogs sweep seems to punish everything you throw at him other than lariet which has its downfalls. The issue is that zangiefs hit boxs moves forward even for short and jab and when your crouch. This causes rogs sweep which has high prority to hit you where as if you were just standing there it would wiff. Also if you are crouching it pushes you back out of the range you can punish a wiffed sweep. I would suggest going in to practice mode and setting rog to crouching block and sweep randomly. The best thing i could find to easly and constantly punish the sweep at the right range was standing mk. You need to be in the sweet spot. I was able to get 9/10 hits without trades vs the sweep. The key is to not crouch and time the MK right after he wiffs a sweep. If you crouch it moves your hitbox forward and his sweep will push you back out of the range you want to be at. Also dont do random bullshit when you get in this sweet spot this will push your hit box forward and you will get punished for it.
Also to people who say they can just walk up to Rog and SPD him i call bullshit. If you can post a video of you doing it in training mode with rog mashing sweep and post the video i will eat my words. i think this is because you cant buffer spd and wait for him to wiff because you will be crouching and your hitbox will move forward and the sweep will push you out of SPD range. Prove me wrong.
Also i love people who say just play footsies with him without explain what is going on and why im getting the shit kicked out of me when every time i wiff a jab im moving my hitbox by my feet forward into sweep range.
Here is a vid. Hope this is the correct place let me know and i can move it.
just walk into range and SPD him ! just play footies! ! ! ! SIGH ! ! !
ok… ive been known to be a nice guy and help out here and there… so here it is…
a video showing what you can be doing during footies… or if he is just sitting there… walking IN and OUT of his space to make him whiff a normal because he thinks he can hit you is a small part of footies… and you can punish via… st/cr. short/jab ~ o/s exgreen hand and YES, you can just walk into his space and SPD him… KNOW your spacing …
here it is…
No, im not going to spend more then 2 minutes on it. no im not going to even bust out a proper camera… i used my phone…
you are welcome
Thanks for the tips. I like it. You got to be quick with that spd.
there is one huge problem with that video… no good balrog will throw sweep from that distance, you aren’t even close to him. I understand how to buffer ex gh in a jab or cr lk. That is not the issue.
stand just outside her HK range and SPD her HK. works against sagat as well. just one option
I’m going to start recording my matches very soon. Shizza is good but he’s very beatable, we play all the time and I don’t really have to much problems against his chun. Well I 'll start posting some vids up vs various players ASAP.
Question, anyone going to final round?
I really wouldn’t recommen that…
hahahaha, I was going to say the same thing… You might land that 1 out of 100 tries.
And how do you record your stuff? Aside from the web cam pointing at the TV deal. Is there a way to hook up your PC to the PS3 or TV to record things?
i did a search on this but usually when I play my friends, mainly Bison, Akuma, and Guile, they start doing alot of neutral jumping randomly and I have no idea what to do on them while they get their free damage. Anyone have any suggestions for this or is it just something I have to deal with?
free damage? if you hold back, it blocks.
-
Training mode, setup dummy for those character to neutral jump and do those attacks over and over again, then figure out what attacks of yours consistently beats it
-
You can beat akuma clean with c.lariat or s.hk
-
Guile you have to practice the timing on c.lariat, c.mp works as well. I’d try s.fp and c.fp as well, but its rare that Guile has employed neutral jump as a tactic that extends beyond one random jump…he loses too much with his charge, and if need be a EXGH guarntees a KD…and Gief’s mixup/o-s game hurts guile something nasty. I think headbutt works here as well, but I’d have to try it in training mode (and I dont even have a 360 right now left it at GFs house sorry)
-
Bison loses to c.lariat, and similar to Guile - he loses WAY too much just doing a neutral jump. Take advantage, just block if you fear the timing and capitalize otherways.

Trick to avoid seth’s ultra. This seems stupid but trolling the Seth forums this seems to be the only way to avoid a ultra with gief. Jump on a sonic boom once they have ultra to bait the ultra. You may be able to jump the sonic booms landing safely if u jump them pretty tight and if u see the ultra coming hitting mk so the sonic boom hits u. Need to do some in game testing and see how good a bait this is vs good seths but I haven’t seen any better ideas.
My solution is to kill him before he gets ultra. Which means build ultra or super myself and try to dizzy. I get hit with way less ultras that way. haha
But if you jump the boom and he ultras, if you hit the boom, you don’t take damage on half his ultra. Only on the ejection, you get hurt. That’s usually like 100 damage or something.
Question: does the HP Headbutt win against al the normal attacks done in the air?
