Yun Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Check the AE2012 Yun guide in the stickies… s.mk~throw is Yun’s best kara throw.

how do you stop a friend how knows you, from focus and crumpling every divekick attempt, he is gouken.

i try to fake him out with empty neutral jumps to safely spaced light rush punch, but is there any other way apart from just blocking,

plus even when im blocking, even on lowish dive kicks if he lets go the instant i land im SCREWED. always.

im literally finding yun impossible against my friend because of this.

and as i said, i know a common non-response will be, mix up your dive kicks, but when he is out zoning me, the only way of getting in is either focus dashing, or through the air, and no matter whether i empty jump or dive kick, his focus attacks are safe and deadly., whether he dashes out of them if i do nothing, or he let go when im in his face and im screwed.

If your opponent is focus punishing your divekicks consistently then the problem could be you are to predictable with your divekicks.
You have to choose when to do divekicks carefully they are one of yuns best tools but only when used at the right times.
Best times to dive kick id say would be at mid-close range where your opponent will try to play footsies and you can dk right over their pokes. Gouken has the best sweep in the game so hes likely to use that allot if you suspect hes gonna sweep you can divekick right over it.
Another good time to dive kick is right after a block string because most people dont expect it but dont do this to often or they’ll catch on and punish the divekick.

I don’t want to be captain obvious here but work on your ground game then. If he is focus crumpling all of your divekicks, it means you are either being too obvious with them, not spacing them properly, using them too liberally or any combination of those. Yun has good footsies and good ground game. Also, constantly doing empty neutral jumps is not good against gouken who can just air fireball and followup palm you.

If he is using focus attack as primary anti-air, then jump in with air target combo to break focus and combo.

Yun have tons of options against fa. Air tc, tc4, ex lunge, and good ol jumpin buffer dp works too.

does yun have a better kara throw from his crouching normals?

No for his best kara throw plink st.mk into throw

thanks

SImple question:

Yuns Best anti airs?

When is it a smart time to use his command throw? The startup is 5 frames (if i remember correctly) and i just feel scared losing it like i’ll eat a cr mk into fireball or something from a shoto and just waste my health away.

I really can’t find one I really like. I like his Fierce for air to air. It’s really solid and does a lot of damage and is great when Neutral jumping. Just got into Yun (I liked Yang more for a long time actually) but Yang is COMPLETE ass now and since Yun got nerfed, i dont feel like a jerk playing him. lol.

Hes fun.

light upkicks are his go to aa but you can also use medium punch and medium kick in some situations.
Yun has lots of set ups for his command throw the main setup is to cancel st.mp into command grab late so that the active frames of the grab come out almost as soon as they come out of block stun.
Another one I like is to often do a meaty palm on their wakeup training them to block (even if they wake up dp it trades in your favor) after that you can mix it up using light punch palm fake as they wake up usually they’ll block expecting another meaty palm and you command grab them.

Don’t listen to MrCam you can’t cancel something “late” into command grab. You can do the command grab after they block the normal moves but that’s not “cancel into”. And for st.mp only ex grab will work because of the range.

learning yun as a counterpick what do i need to learn?

is cr.lk, cr.lk, st.lp, st.lk a true blockstrong?

Yes any chained lights are a true blockstring and you can do cr lp into target combo 5 into lp shoulder for some guaranteed chip and meter, lp shoulder combo’d from target combo 5 is the only true blockstring for lp shoulder.

im having hard time beating e.honda and sagat, any tips?

what are some good command grab setups?

My main ones are
-meaty cr.mp into ex CG
-non meaty cr.mp CANCEL (last few active frames) into regular CG

  • Lp x2 into ex command grab (only use this after you condition them to block with a few frame traps, so they dont mash out of it.)

and finally the kara ex command grab.

oops i meant cr.lp x 2 in the 3rd one.

So all day today i faced the juri army. And maybe it was just online but i could not for the love of yun, punish her spinning kick thing.
I guess it was just the lag.

Thanks man, i shall start using these set ups man.

I play against these characters on the regular, so I’ll just put in some quick tips on them.

E. Honda:
-You can only punish mp/hp headbutts.
-I usually go the route of eliminating Honda’s back charge in any situation I can. EX Headbutt hurts too much.
-You can do this off of throws pretty easily, leaving him with lk buttslam, which you can deal with by focus, close st. mk, lk dp(best option if super is available), or even U1. Also, you can do set ups where the buttslam will whiff in front of you, giving you a free punish.
-Off of a corner neutral throw, whiff lk dp, then jump forward and do db + lk at the peak of your jump. This is a crossup dive kick setup that lands you on the same side. This gets rid of back charge, as well as makes lk butt slam whiff. This is also meaty enough to combo after it.

Sagat:
-You can sacrifice damage for safety by ending your combos in mk dp instead of hk. You can just hold up forward and j. mk for a safe jump on Sagat on quick rise, and if he doesn’t quick rise, you can set up another safe jump situation. While you can safe neutral jump him off of a hk dp, I only include this because you can use this to keep him guessing.
-Try and avoid diving on him after you get him knocked down. Since he’s a tall character, it’s really hard to get that just wake up dive kick just right so you can get it meaty. Plus, if he stand blocks it, most of the time he can reversal dp, or he’ll be at advantage to where his cr. lp will beat any button you throw out. I’m not saying to NOT do it, just set it up well when you do.
-Be sure to whiff punish him a bit. Badly spaced TK’s, st. hk, st. mk, and fwd + hk are things to look for to punish a lot and go on the advantage.
-On a corner neutral throw, you can do some stuff with whiffed lk dp into a semi cool option tree. If you walk forward a pixel and whiff lk dp, you’ll end up with your back to the corner, which you can then do a forwaard jumping lk dive at the peak of your jump which Sagat can’t TU. If you just whiff the lk dp, you can just do a neutral jump normal, and it’s also a safe jump. Also, you can do a lot of things with a neutral jump to safe jump him.

Hope this helps!
