Yu Yu Hakusho Arcade game will get a PS2 port

Well, I dunno how many of you keep tabs on things like this, but it was not too long ago when Banpresto put out another YYH game in arcades in Japan. From what I heard, it was actually pretty good, unlike the last two, rather iffy (to say the least) titles released for the PS2.

Any way, Banpresto is going to release an upgraded PS2 port of the game this coming January, hence the “120%/Full Power” moniker added to the title, which will add 7 more characters to the cast of 14, among other things like probably more playmodes and etc.

Since YYH is one of my fave old-school Jump-manga franchises (plus I get misty thinking of the old YYH games for the SNES, and especially, Genesis/Megadrive), I’m hoping that the game is actually good. Can anybody speak more on this?

In any case, here are some stuff to look at…

Wow, this actually doesn’t look too bad. I don’t expect much out 3D YYH games nowadays.

As far as i know only 1 YYH game was released in U.S for PS2, it had a storymode around the dark tournament saga. Being a YYH fan i REALLY wanted to like the game, but it just SUCKED.

From one of those videos you linked too however with 16 seconds of gameplay, that one looks ALOT better.

What’s with the camera at the end of some of the vids…did he pass out? They ended while panning toward the ceiling…

I’m really looking forward to it.

Is it just me, or does it look like Banpresto is trying to immitate Tekken/Virtua Fighter this time around?

Yeah that’s the first thing I thought when watching, like YYH wrapped around a Tekken/Virtua Fighter skin (not really a bad thing if the end result is a good game) especially how the juggles were looking. A clear example can be found in this video (about a 5 min. trailer showing off some of the characters)

Holy crap good find, I hadn’t heard about this, Yu Yu Hakusho is my favorite anime series ever. Combine that with my love of a good competitive fighter, not to mention one that looks good like this and I’m sold, no doubt in my mind it will but it’d better get a US release.

what arcade system is it on?

System: Namco System 256

In short, the same PS2+ type of hardware that Namco has been using for the last few years. I guess Banpresto (being one of Namco-Bandai’s subsidiaries) was feeling just fine using the same type of hardware that powered some of their other greats from over the years.

Well, there are some factoids that could weigh against this title…for one, I don’t think YYH commanded the type of following that DBZ or any of the other popular Jump stuff out now. For two…Dark Tournament stank it up, and the other PS2 title didn’t even come over here (which was a little bit better, but thankfully, this new game seems to kick its ass soundly too)…

I’d like to see YYH given another fair shot, but Atari could just as easily pass up a localization effort, simply because the last few American YYH releases didn’t do too well for them.

My suggestion, if you really want to see this come stateside? Blow up their (Atari’s) mailboxes, and spam their forums, so that they may consider it more if they think the “demand” is there. :wgrin:

I love YYH. I’m glad that this game is getting a PS2 port as I have never heard of it. Still, my favorite YYH game is Toku for the SNES.

Fallen Angel ftw.
