I’ve kind of stopped listening to music now. Urban music is dominated by the same artists (kayne, j , young money, rick ross), the same producers (Alex Da Kid, David Guetta ¬_¬ ) and most artists guarantee at least one dance, electro, pop or techno single, regardless of the genre they’re in. I’ve been so tainted that I’ve actually bought a couple of albums, but not even opened them (still a fan of CDs).
I wasn’t really in chart hits, but it seems that artists are changing their overall sound to try and remain relevant, rather than innovate, at the moment
I can’t hate on mainstream music. It is meant to appeal to a certain demographic, and there isn’t much wrong with that. I have a slight issue because much of mainstream music since probably the 80s is pretty much manufactured. That’s a big differences between the 80s and onwards vs the 70s and 60s. In the 70s, artist really were themselves. In the 80s artist had to start to fit a mode. From a business perspective it makes sense, because it’s easier to market something that you created. The issue with non mainstream music is that marketing it can be a bit tricky. I’m a huge prog metal and symphonic metal fan. How the hell do you market a band like Opeth? You really can’t. Which is why I think marketability really determines who is mainstream and not. And to be honest, not everyone really appreciate music. Some people moreso appreciate lyrics, or they appreciate catchy phrases in their songs. I mean it’s easier to market a catch phrase and a repetitive beat than to market complex song structure, or signature changes for a 10 minute song.
Also not every underground artist is great. Being a big follower of the underground rap and metal scene for years, I can say there are a lot of bad acts out there. Anal Cunt being one of the worst.
the funny thing is that amaranthe is a metal band created specifically to appeal to the mainstream audience, i also like their songs, since they are catchy and all, but if you put attention to their music, is like all of them were made with the sole idea of being radio hits, they are called metal lite/ for everyone metal for a reason, what cracks me up is that some idiots cal amaranthe death metal, just because there are some “growling” on their songs
her beats are garbage
the lyrics are garbage and involve her repeating herself multiple times in an obnoxious manner. that’d be ok except…
her voice is annoying and grating
it makes me want to punch her in the face. she is barely better than rebecca black friday
she is basically a low tier version of lady gaga who does everything better
Eh, I’m a big metal head, and been one for years. I can tell you music taste in metal varies. I know some metal heads who are big into Death metal but HATE Power Metal and NWOBHM. I am personally a huge NWOHM fan, and not big into grindcore/death metal, but I may like more progressive death metal like Opeth. I however hate progressive black metal. So metal is quite diversified.
I didn’t realize how bad music was becoming until I heard this song. And because people are bringing up “Call me maybe” on here, I am SO going to be that guy right now.
Only open this if you wish for your ears to bleed.
Ever since I started to listen to indie beats like MNDSGN, Flying Lotus and Knxwledge, I never turned back. I might touch some old RnB, old D-Block or something like Tiesto, but nothing new
quite honestly Mainstream music is a plague on my eardrums. Urban especially, however the producers while they all follow a pattern do happen to have a refreshing air, but honestly that’s all I ever listen for really is the production Most of Drakes album I own is all instrumentals, errybody be mad in the car when they expect to hear Drakes faggot ass rapping and instead hear nothing but percussion. It’s priceless.
now im wondering what no mainstream genre do the people here like?
and who can come with the most bizarre ones
i start with Zeuhl and R.I.O. (rock in opposition)
i have never listened instrumental hiphop, lol
what do you can recommend to rectify this?
that is why is say metal
not a specific genre
this is one of the reasons why love metal in general, there is something on every sub genre (like every music genre for the matters) that you can end liking
yeah, i said that i basically only hear the sacred trinity of music, but i also have soft spot for other music despite their genre, as long as it sounds good
i started as a power metal fan, but then i ended diversifying what i heard, though i still dont like the major part of death metal, there are bands that i actually like.
i can say that my metal collection has a good variety of genres, and sub genres, although i have been listening more progressive stuff lately
JUST BLAZE! or do you want dudes who make mostly instrumentals? Some new guys DropxLife, Friendzone, Clams Casino, Beautiful Lou, Keyboard Kid TalenTed
Pop music is dead. People take trends and run them into the ground. Ex. Dubstep. “Mainstream” hasn’t been hot since early 2000s. We still trapped in the 80s
But I’m not mad. $ talks and I’m always surprised how many people “Hate” the radio and shit and still listen/give it time of day. Like I didnt know of Call Me Maybe until early June. And its not that crazy bad, give the broad her stacks. But yet people entice the covers/ autotune news and other bs.
My speakers stay pure

i dont hear the radio at all, no seriously, the only times that i heard it was when i was on the car with my mom, and she usually listens to the classic station, the ones that put music from the 60s to the 80s.
i didnt know about call me baby until today because of this thread
