Your Opinion on Mainstream Music

whats with all the hate on lady gaga? She’s said to be an excellent pianist and she’s also a Julliard Graduate, meaning she has a really good understanding of what music is and on top of that, it shows she’s really talented.

Also, she can actually sing… without using autotune.

I think the problem is, she plays a persona that people just naturally hate.

i dislike her outer appearance very much, but I honestly think she’s a good person. When I see people hating on her, I wonder if they’re just shallow LOL

don’t like my tastes?

i really have no problem with electro-pop but dubstep is ass. since the edm genre is huge and still taking off, there is still potential for other genres to succeed. the only question is will they be given a chance.

and true, while the majority of the edm that is being played on the radio is ass, there are still some good songs.

Mainstream music embraced EDM like random objects embrace Katamari. Why can’t it be it’s own genre instead of basically… everything, rolled into one?

Not like I care since I don’t like listening to music (past or present) anymore.

i like a wide variety of music, from the back street boys to led zeppelin to tupac shakur to tchaikovsky and everything in between. as far as today’s music goes, i hate most of the radio shit, but i do enjoy the occasional lady gaga track. some of katy perry’s stuff is catchy, but i despise kei$ha i hope she dies in a car fire. most of the stuff on the rap station is garbage, but i love all of keri hilson’s shit, anything with eminem (except crack a bottle wtf), and the occasional lil weezy (but let’s face it, em murdered him on their what is love duet). sadly the new rappers seem to come and go and have no staying power and are entirely forgettable and there is a trend where they team up with some R&B girly singer (whose actually a dude). example, any track w bruno mars. not a fan. i prefer when male rappers teamed up with female singers, such as ashanti and big joe in “What’s love”. or anything with aaliyah in it (RIP). but that could just be me. i’m just not a fan of these male singers, except JT (he kills every track he’s on), so maybe i’m just nostalgic for the backstreet boys and n sync.

the alternative rock station is pretty good and i like everything on there, even when they play linkin park (lulz). if anything weezer is an example of the downfall of modern music. their original albums were beautiful, and my favorite, pinkerton, featured the lead singer baring his soul and life story into his music. now their music is pretty pop and generic.

or avril lavigne, i actually liked the lyrics to complicated. yes its cheesy but i thought it was a good song. then she did a complete 180 and released that song “girlfriend”. maybe she was disgusted at the success kei$ha was getting and wanted to turn pop too.

So many people are hypocritical. I remember this one time, I was really drunk with a bunch of friends driving back from a night out in a cab and then Baby starts playing.

Everyone knew the lyrics by heart and were singing it with so much passion. These are people who keep bashing mainstream music and Bieber, yet don’t even know the lyrics to their “favorite hipster songs”.

I think the biggest issue is people can’t really accept that they like something that is actually not good, so they force themselves to not like it, or repress their love of the songs because of peer pressure and perceptions of how people like.

Once you realize that it’s fine to like songs whose musical quality isn’t necessarily the greatest(aka bad songs), you can basically enjoy mainstream music a lot more.

I’m not ashamed to say I enjoy a lot of perceived"bad" mainstream music. Ke$ha is my joint, some of those random catchy songs are my joint, some beyonce, gaga and perry is my joint. If it’s enjoyable to me in some way or the other, I have no qualms about listening to it. And if you’re gonna judge me for liking something you don’t like, then I don’t even want you to be part of my circle.

Will Smith has another son. He doesn’t train with Jackie Chan though.

How many times does this message get recycled?
“Yeah, I’m gonna be unique! Be myself! Willow Smith is so right! So is Pink and Kesha and 3 Doors Down and Gaga and NickleBack and Beiber and etc etc.”

Mainstream music sucks…

this is why i wont listen to the radio. dont be sheep. dont be herded. dont be fleeced.

So wait, I’m still confused as to what is considered mainstream?
I’m guessing it’s dub step because people here are hating on it?

When I get on my car, I normally have my MP3 player or CD playing.
But when I happen to use the radio (I actually use it for the news and finding concert info, which is rare but happens) I would hear this song:

And I like that song… so… uh…
I dunno.
I know it’s an old song, but does that mean that old mainstream >>>> new mainstream (since everyone is saying radio = mainstream)?
I’m confused.

And no one will ever know what the song was originally written for.

I’m sorry but this is fucking gay, and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Dubstep only became popular because of peer pressure.

you have zero taste in music you should never listen to anything ever again

i only hear the sacred trinity of music
metal, jazz, classical music :coffee:

why and how exactly is metal with the other two

record companies own radio station playlists …its simple…theres no shortage of followers.

music was ALWAYS money.

except it was actually good before. now its mostly shit.

a music today is watered down solely because people like formulaic shit .Corporations realize this and cater to it and reinforce with the 60 add rule etc and the breaking down of genres into subgroups.A hip hop station should play a vast array of styles and regions same way with a rockmstation lBut the record ladles love to play genres regions, stations ,artist against each other so we don’t get that unity nor that variety. The fans ignorantly fall for the trappings and get caught up in the image, ideal, sub culture of each genre and let themselves get shittedon by the big three,
