Pop: going strong. A lot of it has transitioned into electro-pop. Britney, Gaga, and Madonna to name a few.
Country: pretty solid for the last year or two. Sugarland and Toby Keith are awful, but most of the stuff I hear on the radio ranges from decent-good.
Rock: not really on my radar.
Rap: mostly abysmal these days. Kanye and Jay-Z are consistently great, but Drake, Wiz, and Wayne are fucking terrible. Jeezy isn’t a master lyricist, but he’s good for a few chuckles.
So, if I turn on the radio these days, it’s all right. It’s certainly been worse. I listen to weird, French robot music .
I really hate how “pop” has turned into “dance” music and know every kid knows what trance/house is when what they listen to is comercial shit bruvs. not to mention how dubstep is in every movie trailer and commercial, that 15 minutes is gonna be more like 5 at this rate, which isnt a bad thing imo.
It’s too bad how big record labels won’t sign bands and artists if they’re too good. It’s the same with radio stations. Too good? No air play.
That’s why mainstream music is awful. Talented artists are forced to remain in obscurity, because no one wants to listen to good music.
Well…almost no one. Underground heads are the only people that GET it. They find all of the really good stuff. Anyone who listens to FM radio is a fag.
“mainstream” radio songs all sound same. It either is some sob story, stupid club song even though there past songs wasnt like that, general noise put into one song or simple dubstep.
