Blood and Bone is the shit IMHO. It’s like a live action Def Jam Vendetta : FFNY.
Black Dynamite
Some great suggestions, thanks guys. Surprised noone mentioned fight club, although thats not the kind of fighting movie im talking about anyway.
Im more into the martial arts movies.
I still have to see this…
Thats one of my all time favourite movies, did it have that many fights in it???
Aside from the bruce lee movies, what are some of the best classic kung fu movies? Like the kind of stuff that tarantino is inspired by?
Five Deadly Venoms?
Prodigal Son
Apparently this is one of the best. I havent seen it but I know its tarantino’s favorite kung fu movie.
Master Of The Flying Guillotine
Just saw Black Dynamite last Sunday, its on Starz On Demand…It was ok, lots of homage to 70s films, my fav was with Jim Kelly Enter the Dragon…
Anyway, the lack of Shaw Brother films in here shows that SRK has terrible taste in kung fu films. I’ll just list american films that hasn’t been mention.
American Ninja 1 & 2
American Samurai
Revenge of the Ninja
Last Hurrah for Chivalry- excellent
King of the Kickboxers- Hilarious “american is not to win the fight!”
(the true) Game of death- exceptional
the director of Bodyguards and assassins was at the london premier we went to, he said his next film will be a homage to the old Shaw Brothers movies!
Props to Last Hurrah for Chivalry one of my fav, an underrated John Woo film!
The Street Fighter (I like just about anything with Sonny Chiba)
Return Of The Dragon (Chuck Norris vs Bruce Lee in the Rome Coliseum is one of the greatest movie fights that I’ve ever seen)
Riki-Oh (Punching holes in people and ripping out their intestines has never been so pleasant)
The Protector (Just bad ass)
Street Fighter 2 The Animated Movie
the guy below already named a few.
great choices. i would also add other Shaw Bros films like: One Armed Boxer, Master of the Flying Guillotine (sequel to One Armed Boxer and ironically, it has a Dhalsim like indian character), Executioners from Shaolin (IIRC, a prequel to Clan of the White Lotus), Five Shaolin Masters (with the late, great Alexander Fu Sheng), Shaolin Avengers, The Hot, the Cool and the Vicious (non-SB film) and many other 70’s-80’s MA films i can’t recall at the moment.
it’s awesome. although, i liked one armed boxer just a tiny bit more.
Does a region 1 DVD for clan of the white lotus exist? I can only find region 3. Im not really looking to buy a new DVD player to play this 1 movie.
Yeah, the ending is too dope.
Showdown in little tokyo!
Not only is it a excellent typical action flick, but one of the few shining examples that Dolph lundgren is capable of doing a quite well in a main role when used right.
This movie is also chock full of classic 90’s nostalgia. Everything from the style of action scenes, jokes used, interaction between main chars, and the soundtrack. Just screams “90’s action movie”.
Edit: Brandon Lee was also in this movie and was cool in his role too.
A lot of very good movies have been mentioned already. I second One Armed Boxer, The Five Deadly Venoms, The 36 Chambers of Shaolin. Excellent films.
One that hasn’t been mentioned is Dragons of the Orient. Its pretty old, and its more of a documentary than anything else, but it shows a lot of real life kung-fu magic.
yes, try searching under the title,“Fists of the White Lotus”. SB films can be confusing because the original and alternate titles are used interchangeably.
edit: another good SB movie just popped into my head,“3 Evil Masters”
Master of the Flying Guillotine
Once upon a Time in China series
Police Story 1&2
Drunken Master/Legend of the Drunken Master
Dragon Lord
Dragons Forever
The Story of Ricky
Fist of Legend
Fearless
Iron Monkey
Yah, if you haven’t noticed already I’m a huge Jackie Chan/ Jet-li fanboy.
Jackie Chan moreso by like x N
