huh didnt know mago played him, i’ll have to check that out.
I hear you exogen, I really do. I agree wholeheartedly but Ono has good points too. I really hope the Dash does improve on the character, not to make things easier but to make things more balanced and create a more well rounded character. I think Dictator is in need of this most out of all the chars. Even Gouken has a stronger comeback potential, all that old fool needs is a throw! I’ll head over to the wishlist thread and start adding some ideas there.
apologize ahead of time for such a long post but this fool gave me no choice. I don’t mean to derail the topic but something has to be made clear.
first: I did not know that the info had been sent to capcom already, so sue me for being ignorant to that fact.
second: arguments about a characters shortcomings as it relates to tier placement and the like being presented having nothing to do with the person who was making them. it would be like saying that if a person who has never got beyond basic algebra was to read from a calculus math text book to a room full of people, that the information would suddenly become false simply because that person had no yet learned that level of math yet. it would be ridiculous.
similarly if someone was to present arguments and points and even complaints(with reasons again) about a characters tier placement. the truth and validity of the statements and those arguments would be a completely separate issue from the motive of that person for saying it and the person him/her self. it would not matter if I was a cripple, because what I am saying is either true or untrue, valid or invalid.
therefore IT IS ad hominem to bull that bullsh1t.
third: who ever said my MOTIVE for presenting arguments, points ect… had anything to do with me winning or loosing? just for the record I’m currently at around 6400 fights and 77.7% win ratio, and I am also in G1.
now before you get all gay on me know that I have anticipated your move of saying something to the effect of " having lot’s of wins and being in G1 is not an absolute measure of skill", understand that I am aware of this and by no means intend to put up my stats here for that purpose.
just to quote you again, you said specificly
"*After complaining, there are three choices:
Get better.
Use another character.
Quit SF4.
Now it literally is up to the individual player to get better. This is entirely logical and not ad hominem whatsoever.* "
you see, your assuming that the motive behind my arguments/complaints is that I need to “get better”, which obviously can only imply that I loose most of the time.
now also for the record I play pretty much only bison. I might mess around with guile and shoto’s and occasionally a goken but pretty much it’s always bison. yet my win rate is rather high.
so you see loosing has nothing to do with it. in fact, even if my win rate was 100% and I played bison 100% of the time and was the greatest SF player known to man I WOULD STILL BE HERE SAYING THE SAME THINGS. my motive is simply that I see an imbalance and wish it to be corrected.
now I have drawn attention that you are saying that the “reason” why I say what I say is because of what ever my win/loss record is. that means you are questioning my motive NOT my arguments. that is add hominem because you are attacking the person making the argument and not the argument it self.
learn the difference next time between arguments both their truthfulness and their validity, and the motives of the person(s) who are making them.
Valle didn’t actually quit playing Bison. He used him for a few of his pool matches at Evo. Now you would ask, why doesn’t he main Bison anymore? Well IMO, the belief that he “mained” Bison came from a few videos of him playing on youtube. I would argue that Ryu was always his main, since he’s been well known for playing shotos for well over a decade.
Or you know it could have been that article he wrote that was posted on the front page of Shoryuken a while back where he stated that he didn’t feel as comfortable with the shotos in SF4 and decided to main Bison. Of course we all know he’s feeling a bit more comfortable with them now but he clearly stated that he was maining Bison when he originally started playing SF4
YES!!! Mysterious japanese bison. I wish someone had recorded those.
Anyway I haven’t lost faith in Bison. Very few people pick him but that just turns me on. It’s like I get to play a rogue character except he’s actually good.
My favorite players:
1.) Head Press (his vids vs daigo at gamesky are like my bison bible)
2.) Neurosis
3.) NO NAME BISON. (Who is he!??!?!)
Anyway, I would say Kuma but the dude rushes down and I think Bison rushdown is only so-so.
These discussions on bison’s condition will never end. Personnally I don’t complain because I think he’s fairly strong and I’m doing well with him. Yes some matchups are hard, but I still do my best to manage them in the best way possible.
However, I do think that the character is too one dimensional : you’re basically using the same setups and the same tools all the time, and there aren’t many of them, which can make him boring to play in the long run. I would like him to have more fancy tricks, like practical ambiguous crossups, interesting and fun combos involving juggles or fdac cancel that are actually useful (ie. not just wasting 2 ex bars for crap damage).
To fulfill my need for all that fancy shit I’m currently learning akuma as a second char, but keeping bison as my main because I actually like him and he’s the one I’m the most effective with. I’m hoping they will make him more interesting to play in the next version, but not necessarily that they will make him stronger.
On a side note, a friend of mine just came back from japan and told me that he saw many dic players in the arcades, and that they were doing fairly well against good players.
This is true. I went to about 10 plus different arcades while in Japan. Amazing dictator at every one. Destroyed me 9/1 in mirror matches and I got to watch them school other players afterwards. I did give them as hard of a time as I could…execution and pressure games amazing. Truly inspirational. I only wish I could have seen them play more against other chars.
Here’s a list of top dictators. Feel free to add to it if I missed any.
