Like I said, everything improved from 3SOE. Online is great and thus DSR is what the people wanted. The great netplay aspect GGPO provides, and the social aspects and good bells and whistles (plus training mode) that a console release provides. If you have the money, pick it up.
you mean the crappy/barren ATM user interface that makes the game look like a ghost town? what’s social about having to filter/search for matches and seeing only a small fraction of the online players at a given time? also sending messages with a gamepad like e-mails is so archaic…
GGPO client buggy/gimped as it is provides a far better online experience than all current gen fighting games. there’s a good reason why PC games have thriving online communities…
I’d stick to GGPO if it had better support. It stopped working on my PC ages ago for no discernible reason and basically every answer tells me to reinstall windows. They can fuck right off with that. These days I stick to SupArc. It doesn’t have DS though.
DS3 was IronGalaxy’s best effort yet, but they still make some really dumb UI decisions.
Not having to skype is preferable. Not having to constantly the request match option to actually get one to go through is even better. I don’t want to have to jump through hoops just to HOPEFULLY get a game in.
I’ll always take having an ability to play whenever I want with no worries 7 days a week than taking multiple hours to hopefully get in one session. The only two things the GGPO client has over DSR right now is a better ability to see the player pool and being free. Of course, I assume being free is best for everyone right?
Jojo: Bad netcode (not ggpo), speed is slower than original arcade port, and all the characters health ratio are the same. AKA worst port you could ever imagine.
3SO: Pretty shitty but unlike Jojo it is at least playable online (ggpo netcode). The upcoming update should fix most of the problems.
Savior: Fixed a lot of problems from 3SO. The only complain I heard so far is the quality of the youtube videos uploads (not sure about that part).
Judging from all the sentiments about DSR, I’ll definately be picking that up. Though I will have to wait and see if the patch for 3SOE makes it that much better before I even consider giving it a second try. Game just didn’t feel right
I wonder if that success is circumstantial. The dry spell of fighting games between 2002 and 2009 (when arcades and Saturday morning cartoons died off) may have resulted in pent up demand after the over saturation of fighting games post-SF2 days. Idk, it’ll be interesting if we see another dry spell in the 2-D market but I doubt that will happen in the next 3-5 years.
It’d also be interesting to see if some games that released to failure would’ve been successful if they had internet capability and publicity. Some other games w/ online play and focused on a home console release may have done just as well upon initial release as SF4 if home console sales were the focus… Which helps me understand more why BlazBlue still manage to sell copies despite being… Not fun… Kappa
Fair point. I remember about two years ago before 3SOE came out that Ponder asked dudes if they would mind if GGPO used Directx9 to run. Needless to say that the majority were in favor of it. Also, almost three years ago when GGPO went down for a month and came back, Ponder added a ton of Savestates for potential games like Capcom’s AVP, Punisher, World Heroes Perfect, etc. And those games were never officially added.
