Yang Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Adon’s tough, he might be a 4-6 against Yang in 2012. Check out Kyoku beating up on that grandmaster Adon in the 3 on 3 tournament.

What’s Yang’s
1)best air to air. J. HK or mk or j.hk
2)Best jump in J.HP?
3)Best AA. LK Dragon kick
What’s the best punish for Blanka balls and Honda’s HB.

  1. hk probably. hp works just as well? No reason to use mk which does less damage and if you need the fater startup go with lp.
  2. Yes. Or that air target combo. I don’t understand why some yang players jump in with cr.mk (non crossup).
  3. Yes. Or launcer (cl.mk) if you can, because it’s more damage.

Blanka balls depends on strenght used. In all scenarios, u2 is the best punish. I honestly don’t remember which ones bounce him further, but you can’t punish the furthest one nor the ex version (you might with ex roll…).
Honda’s fp headbutt is punishable with ex rekka, other versions aren’t punishable but he’s forced to block regular rekka.

What’s the best option for punishing condor dives aside from u2. With meter I assume ex. roll kick would be best but what about a regular punish without meter?

I’m struggling against most of the defensive characters. How do you guys deal with balrogs just holding down back?

You have to make them respect throws, command grabs, [S]crossups[/S]. Recognize how your opponent is defending (is he mashing jabs? holding back? holding downback? holding up? stand teching? crouch teching? delayed crouch teching?) and counter accordingly.

But all the charge characters feel like an uphill battle with yang imo.

i sorta do have trouble with balrog as well but what i usually do is rush them before they rush me first.

So are you ever going to get on your old PSN Rosesfivall56 or should I delete that.

Charge characters were much easier to deal with in regular AE because we had the cross-up, which when mixed in would blow up down-back. Now it’s much more difficult to deal with down-back and great normals.

The best we can do is come up with specific cross-up set-ups. I also like the use of command dash to mess with their charge.

you can delete it. my new account is Skipperall56. Add me!!!

damn…these forums are dead as fuck.

And this is why I’m trying my best to keep them alive.

Is meaty palm any good with Yang vs. wake-up and if so, are there any setups?

basically , i think u have to mix between fake palm(with lp) and real one.and then u can set the mind raping…like fake palm->grab or true palm or fake palm guard…
hope i gave u help…

Basically what koufdell said. As for set-ups, they really screwed with most of them when they nerfed the number of active frames on the palm. However, there are a couple set-ups that I know of. In the corner, you can do close MK to launch the opponent, and then as they’re falling, use LK, and then LINK a HP Palm. It’ll hit meaty. I can’t emphasize the link part enough; if you cancel the LK into a palm, it’ll whiff. And as koufdell said, you can mix it up with fake palm into command grab (or regular grab for a cross-up setup vs. certain characters) to mess with the opponent. Just watch out for DP mashers.

Also, you can use a similar set-up outside of the corner. You can hit-confirm into HP mantis slashes, and on the 2nd one, EX FA cancel it. But don’t dash cancel it; hold the focus attack so that you can hit the opponent right when it becomes a lv 2 focus. They’ll fall into a crumple state. You can do pretty much whatever you want at this point, but if you want a meaty-palm set-up, once they fall to their knees, crouch LK, and link into palm.

Personally though, in that situation (when they’re crumpled), I prefer to do my cross-up/non-cross-up LK teleport set-up. Basically, if you catch your opponent with a focus attack, once they fall to their knees, crouch MK and cancel into LK teleport. You can vary the timing by a few frames to essentially “pick” which side of your opponent you end up on. Do it a few frames earlier to end up behind them, or wait a bit more to end up in front of them. You can then either attempt to hit confirm into another set of Mantis Slashes, or you can command throw as soon as you recover to mess with the opponent. Once again, watch out for people who are DP mash happy.

So, does Yang have a jumping crossup anymore?

Against certain characters, yes. I’m still working on making a guide that shows which characters you can cross-up under which circumstances. At this point, shotos seem to be the hardest to cross up (the only exception at this point being Akuma with one specific set-up), while against fatter characters like E. Honda it’s as if our cross-up wasn’t affected at all.

What are Yang’s 2012 frame traps?

cr.short, delay, cr.mkxxxspecial
cr.lk, close fiercexxxxspecial
cr.lk, close mkxxxjump cancel into dive kick
cr.lk, close mp hit confirm

you can sub in jabs instead of shorts, but you have to adjust your timing

Close mp, cr. mk frame traps as well.
