Yang Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

if your looking for the yang you liked to watch in AE i wouldn’t bother, hes a lot diff…

hes low tier, tho he isn’t… at my skill lvl hes low tier, but if you are at least abour 3000 pp you should be able to make him mid tier in a month.

im just a scrub.

Alright thanks for the info.

He’s mid tier basically. He tends to go even with most of the cast except for the grapplers.

I think he has a slight edge over Abel though
Cross up still works
Just make dive kicks safe
And do the same BS you do in vanilla, just 1-2 more times
And Yang still rocks in the corner, although I miss the corner lk dive kicks you used to be able to abuse on shotos
Even on hit now, it seems they can mash/throw after

In retrospect, I’m appreciate the nerfs Yang received in a sense
It forced me to lvl up my ground game, adopt a safer approach
I realized I’m really reliant on my ex slashes set ups though (to throw, frame trap, cmd throw)

I have a question, what is Yang over Fei Long ?

So I was watching cross counter asia and zhi said nemo might drop yang. That would suck cause he’s the main reason I love Yang.

Wouldn’t be surprised. If you want to win, no sense in gimping yourself with Yang.

That’s sadly the case. I wouldn’t really recommend Yang if you’re a pro player. Otherwise, I don’t see the issue though, learning to outplay your opponent is going to be more important than the fairly minor disadvantages Yang has outside of top level play.

So what is the difference between Yun and Yang about playstyle ?

Yang has safer pressure, better wakeup options and better ultras. Yun has better oki, better damage on average and a better command grab. Yun tends to be played more offensively with divekicks and stay in your face where Yang can afford to play a style that involves walking in and out of footsie range and trying to force an opening with cr.mk xx rekkas or the like.

I dont know about you guys, but with the way I play/played Yang I might as well play Fei now.

I watch high level play and notice the opponent always respects his opponent’s footsie range. But when I’m playing, people never respect me. They just spam invincible moves on my resets, take a lot of dumb gambles, and they just dont know what blocking is. What I’m asking is how can I get my opponent to calm down and respect me as a player. I’m not that bad. I’m a 2300pp player.

Simply bait more. After a reset just block.

But you cant really blame your opponents. There’s no reason NOT to mash against Yang.
Yang’s strongest punish does low damage and doesnt leave you with a followup and if his guess is correct, he takes a big chunk of your life because Yang has low health.

I barely go for resets with Yang anymore because it’s just not worth it. I feel like it’s better to play pressure opponents with rekka mixups.
Like delayed 2nd rekka’s on block and when they respect those you can mix it up with 1st rekka on block into cr.lk xx rekka.

I never realised how good rekka was to maintain pressure.

That’s exactly how I’ve felt, and that’s why I honestly think Fei Long is just plain better now. Especially with dive kick (and crossup) basically gone.

Yes, rekkas are great for pressure… that’s the whole point of his game pretty much.

People don’t respect you because you don’t scare them. Either CH hit them all the time or block enough DPs to make them realize you’re not going to run into random shit and actually punish them for it, and many people will stop. If you consistently run into DPs because people are mashing then 1) you need to understand that random DPs will happen and 2) you need to learn how to stop attacking sometimes. It’s just how sf4 works.

Fei long has always been better than Yang, especially in the U.S.

People need to understand what kind of resets are good against what characters. Jump RH resets are less effective against DP characters for obviously reasons. If you’re playing against a character like makoto with no easy answer to dash mixups, then you should use them more often. If you’re playing against a ryu that knows how to grind the bottom to get autocorrect DP, then dash mixups are more dangerous. It’s not that complicated, really.

Baiting and giving room to the other player are cornerstones of a good offense.
When you understand you’re playing another person and stop thinking on the match only from your own point of view, you’ll get much better. There’s a lot of “of course you’re gonna dp now” going on.

Incidentally, how do you usually use your bar against Ryu/Ken? I don’t really know how to use it efficiently in that matchup - against Akuma and the like it’s obviously better to just go for high stun combos, but good wakeup + average stun characters have stymied my mixup game a bit.

EX rolls against fireballs. I usually focus on building one bar and start the match from there.
Not so much against Ken, since he doesn’t fb as much and Yang has no real normal against f.mk, so imo he’s better off poking with that rather than fireballs. I’d say go for damage (fadc, cl.hp xx hp rekkas) or the usual reset, depending on your playstyle. FADC into rekkas is almost a corner to corner carry as well, and Yang can be really obnoxious at that range where you can AA with cl.mk.

So does anyone know what yangs matchups look like post 2012? Or is he not used enough in high level play to gather that info?

I’m having trouble doing this for some reason, I try to hold down (or down back) as soon as I dash but still go under…
any tips on when exactly to hold down or somethin’ ?
