I haven’t played anyone to test it, but I believe you can still do an alternate version of KOF’s throw OS. I’m positive that you can hold back against hops, then input C~AC. You could do this for whatever close normal is fastest for your character, and still add in a throw break attempt since you can always break throws unless you’re rolling. Normal throws are almost useless in XDZW; they have to be really asleep to get him by them so at best you get riskier attempts at things you can already do in KOF like dash and throw or do poor ticks, but in XDZW if you goof and even so much as mistime against the long throw invuln times you’re done. You also can’t get any sort of backturn okizeme. I’ve also noticed that cr.A punishes rolls much better than throws on reaction and in terms of damage.
This game would be better off making throws more like XII if it intends to keep two button throws. Make them untechable but get rid of XII’s VF strike > throw system and they’d be functional. Otherwise it’s better off sticking to KOF style unless they’re willing to go the extra distance to completely redo throws (make them ST or Guilty Gear good, add some sort of universal combo option into or out of throws, remove teching, get rid of alternate guard, etc…).
You seem to be the only one left posting. I feel kind of bad.
But I’ve been having trouble getting connected to opponents. That combined with my Windows 8.1 preview Ultrabook’s inability to run XD have kept me sidelined for awhile (I keep the client up to date).
There are many factors behind the lack of activity, two or three months ago people were still on vacations so they were able to play, right now work is intense for most people. Also, I’ve been reading some people’s having problems to find matches against Chinese players, the November events were pretty restrictive because they asked people to log in at 3:00 a.m. and that was an obstacle for Western players too (and October’s events won’t change much in that sense), and finally the beta key system now makes practically impossible to get or share a key, so the international community is growing no more.
Hopefully things are gonna change, if not an open beta soon (rumored) at least a less restrictive method for getting the keys, and more people will be able to join and play the game.
