Not interested in fightsticks, but this seemed the place to ask. Just would like to use my wired xbox controller for gta5 on my ps3 as I’ve grown so accustomed to it on the pc playing gta4 for so long. I know there’s other threads but I couldn’t find any recent info on what’s available for xbox > ps3 specifically, and there’s a big long faq thread about adapters which I have seen, but all it states on the subject of xbox to ps3 is the crossfire which says it has input lag, and there seems to be quite a few more out there these days besides that one.
So… anyone have hands on experience with these and can maybe share a few suggestions? Thanks in advance.
The newest one, the cronus, has lag so i don’t think you have many options other than getting a ps3 pad.
I might recommend getting a PS3 game pad with the Xbox 360 style layout
Best way to go. I’ve been using a MadCatz MLG PS3 controller for a few months now and it’s awesome – wish I’d known about it a while ago. It’s solid, has a good construction to fill out your hands, the D-Pad and Thumbsticks are swappable so you can switch between asymm and symm thumbstick layouts.
Adapters just end up being frustrating and causing problems or complications in the end.
Alternatively, PowerA has one that’s like… identical to the 360 controller and is pretty comfy and accurate to it’s 360 counterpart. Inexpensive and can be picked up at Target and possibly a few other places. I used it for a while when my DS3’s were out of commission.
Thanks guys. My first thought was actually an after-market xbox styled gamepad but they usually tend to have one aspect of them that’s craptastic at best (either crappy directional pads, triggers, etc) . I’ll look into the PowerA one mentioned though. I was actually looking at the MLG one but I’m not looking to pay $100 for a gamepad. Maybe if I used it for fighters as well but I’m a stick guy for those
I assume this is the PowerA one mentioned? The triggers and such are decent on this thing? Also seeing a few complaints about massive deadzones on the analog sticks… Little skeptical with such a low price tag but it might be worth trying at that price anyways

I absolutely detested the PowerA controller. The right stick placement felt off and really uncomfortable to me, not very like the Xbox controller at all. Required me to rotate my hand to uncomfortable degree in order to fully actuate it.
I’ve actually tried pretty much every single XBox style controller for the PS3 I could get my hands on because I really don’t like the DS3. That MadCatz MLG controller is kind of expensive, but it’s almost perfect, way better than any of the other controllers I’ve tried.
The only problem I’ve had with the MLG is that the L3/R3 buttons are kind of stiff so if you do a lot of L3/R3 you’re gonna have some thumb bruises until you break it in. Otherwise, it’s pretty awesome.
I really discourage the PowerA though. It was a serious let down. It might be passable though if you don’t have girly hands like me.
Yep that’s the one. I only really played a bit of dragon’s crown with it, so your mileage may vary. If you pick it up in store you can give it a shot and just return if it you find the deadzone to be bothersome of course.
Like, it feels solid, and not shoddy at all. Well worth the $15 price tag if you find the performance otherwise good for you.
If you’ve tried them all are there any others you could recommend that don’t cost $99?
And thanks again everyone for the advice so far. It’s appreciated.
I may try the PowerA anyways as I was gonna order a usb pci card from amazon anyways for my pc so I can plug in my TE stick. If I don’t like it my buddy needs a 2nd ps3 controller anyways. I’m sure he’ll be glad ot have it if I don’t like it.
Yeah, that’s the downside. That’s the only one I’ve found that reliably gives the same feel and quality of play that makes the Xbox controller so attractive.
The problem I had with the PowerA controller was that the right side analogue stick placement is too far to the inside, so in order for me to completely articulate the stick in all directions I had to roll my hand towards the top and it was just way too uncomfortable.
There was another pad that I tried that actually wasn’t too bad stick wise but the shoulder buttons were weird and uncomfortable. I forget which one it was but I’ll look at the shell when I get home (tore it apart to mess with the PCB and never put it back together).
In the end, the DS4 feels a lot better than the DS3, it really is an improvement, so if you can live without the asym stick placement that one works too.
But really if you don’t have small, small-medium sized hands, or if you don’t intend to play any games that require the use of the right analogue stick, then PowerA may work great for you. I certainly enjoyed using it for left-stick only games well enough. That was the part that really disappointed me about it because everything else about it was really nice, it was really affordable. But man, that right analogue just ruined the FPS viability which was the biggest reason I wanted an asym controller.

If you had money to burn I can mod 360 pads and convert them into working on the ps3 instead.
Or just get used to a Dual Shock 3
