X-Men: First Class movie

I know exactly what Darwin is, but they didn’t portray him in the same vein in the movie AT ALL. That’s the main point. In the comics Darwin wouldn’t die like that, he would’ve adapted and lived, the writers intentionally killed him with his blackness. You really think a movie that made Havok Cyclop’s dad is going to actually spend the time to chart Darwin’s abilities like that? He was clearly written off to die in the movie (which is why no other X-Member did). The last 10 minutes of progressive camaraderie before he died was just an emotional setup so audiences could care about his death and his mutant “SLAAAAAVERY”.

Since they pinned the same name as the comic on it. Don’t pin a title of an existing comic on a movie if you’re going to be innaccurate.

(smh)

You fan boys are so silly. “They changed something from the comic book!”

Sure did. And?

This is why Marvel bothers to keep track of the different universes. The X-Men movie (iirc) is it’s own separate numbered Marvel Universe. I know for sure that the movie Avengers universe is.

I mean let’s bitch about all the movies while we are at. Let’s start with Blade shall we.

  • Deacon Frost doesn’t die like that in the books.
Too bad. He’s dead. Go fuck your mom.
  • Well Daredevil was just awful. Along with Elektra. But Kingpin was…
Black? Sorry. No famous big white guy could fill the role. And you know how we grow niggas big in the States.
  • Wolverine doesn’t meet the X-Men like that in the books.
Oh. He did here though. Want some chips with that salt?
  • Jean Grey doesn’t drown from an exploding dam and come back ass phoenix. That’s Cosmic shit.
Fox didn’t want cosmic. Go watch Fantastic Four.
  • I just watched FF Rise of the Silver Surfer! Galactus was a cloud!
I bet you miss X2 already.
  • Spiderman’s powers come from radiation and a spider. Not a genetically altered one! And bionic webshooters!?
First off, if Peter can get all the powers but webbing that’s rather gay. I still find it silly that he needs to formulate his own web fluid. Do you formulate your own sperm?

It is highly unreasonable for you cats to sit here and expect writers to follow the comic books to a T. You should view them as a possible interpretation of the work. None of these people, even in their own damned books, are set in stone. Or else the entire Marvel cast would be either dead or at retirement home for super humans.

the movies don’t need to follow the 616 canon… There are various marvel comics with diverse universes. A flowing 616 movie would only be entertaining to the nerds.

You also forgot Rogue in X1. In my opinion, X1 ruined the character in general… she was always great with the ms marvel powers and brave red neck attitude.
No TV series, Game, or Movie ever followed the canon. Even the legendary Fox Kids X-men didn’t follow the 616 cannon; if it did, you would have nightcrawler and colossus during the Phoenix Saga, and not Gambit, Jubilee, or Rogue.

^Exactly. Comic books are no different than legends and myths from ancient cultures. The difference is that comic books trademarked that shit. If they didn’t I’d make Spider Man a dirty Filipino.

Well, it was a bad take on Rogue, but I think Wolvie and the X-Men saved that character (it’s generally considered that the Rogue here is an older version of the one in the X movies). She was still Wolvie’s sidekick (or at least…was) but they made her, you know not annoying. Plus they made it so that she could actually handle herself in a fight without Ms. Marvel’s powers.

nah, Wolvie and the x-men didn’t save rogue for me. I think marvel fucked her up after the x-men 1 movie… Rogue was still a child in character in the wolverine show. i thought Rogue was going to get her justice when she absorbed sunfires abilities, but sadly they took it off. I never liked the rogue who just absorbs. The old Ms. Marvel Rogue should not have been touched. She is totally weird to use in any game if marvel sticks to her actual cannon.

I never was a fan of Ms. Marvel Rogue. Her focus should’ve been on the just absorbing. Giving her the other abilities…there was almost no point in her absorbing. If I wanted Ms. Marvel superpowers…I’d follow Ms. Marvel more.

Ya know that might be why Ms. Marvel has been in the lime light so much as of late.

No you don’t because:

In the comics he was part of the first team Xavier sends at Krakoa. They all die, but HE ADAPTS and ends up taking decades to come back as an energy being. So yeah, that’s actually pretty accurate to what happened in the movie, minus Krakoa being substituted by Shaw.

You really think a movie that made Havok Cyclop’s dad is going to actually spend the time to chart Darwin’s abilities like that? He was clearly written off to die in the movie (which is why no other X-Member did).

Yes I do. After all, there was a cut scene of him coming back to life on the moon.

I am gonna guess you’re black, and that every black guy got emotional over the slavery comment. Cuz I’ve seen it dozens of times, typed the saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame way. Hurray, Fox stuck their dick in your collective mouth

As for Rogue, I was actually ok with her change, only because of Anna’s performance. I WAS pissed when I realized she didn’t have her original powers, nor was she evil from the start :frowning:

just watched it. There were some good/funny parts.

What do you mean she didn’t have her original powers? Those seemed like her original powers to me. Though, yeah, she wasn’t evil from the start (and this continuity pretty much tossed out a decent amount of her backstory other than her power origin).

I wish I could see a continuity that has Rogue’s current powers where she can absorb at will and doesn’t have the annoyance of not being able to touch anyone.

Hence my point, the movie is just cherrypicking plot points to create a unique film around said comic.

I don’t remember that in the movie and I stayed for the possible after-ending, so you must be talking about the comics, which, according to people who read it, the movie barely followed.

lol Yeah because only black people in theaters were collectively groaning/laughing at how gratuitously stupid that scene was. There’s a reason why this was mentioned by a bunch of people in this thread, and I’m sure all of them aren’t black. Oh and I bet Darwin was fully black (IIRC he’s afro-latin) in the comics too right? Mr. Armando Muñoz aka “You can just call me by my real name… Darwin.”

Pointing out a poorly placed part in a film isn’t bashing a whole film, which I said I enjoyed. However, I’m not going to dance around a part that felt spliced in for cheap emotional effect. If the [supposed omega-level] movie Darwin is still alive in First Class (which there was zero evidence of), then they must be saving it for the sequel that they will never have once Marvel secures their rights for X-Men once more.

Darwin could come back, but I doubt it. I actually thought Senator Kelly (from the first movie) could have come back too. His mutant power could have been to control and turn into water. There was a part where Jean said Kelly died and Magneto replied, “Are you sure you saw what you saw?”

I liked the movie. There were definitely some cheesy parts and questionable parts to nit pick, but whatever. It is what it is. I think the slavery line is more funny than emotional regardless of what the director was trying to do.

I finally checked the movie out last night. While it’s better than the last two X-men movies, I don’t quite think this one was as good as X1. Almost on the same level, but just not quite there. X2 is still probably the best IMO.

I did however think the relationship/on screen chemistry between Professor X and Magneto was brilliant in this movie.

Question, was Kevin Bacon playing the older Nazi at the beginning? LOL, I swear I couldn’t really tell if that was him or not.

yes, that “older nazi” was still Sebastian Shaw

I know it was Shaw, but was that Kevin Bacon? It didn’t look like him for some reason…Or maybe I wasn’t paying that much attention?

I didn’t think it looked like Kevin Bacon either

Nah it was him. My wife even leaned over and said “Is Kevin Bacon supposed to be playing 2 characters?” the first time you see shaw
