This April, the secrets of Archangel will be revealed as Magneto and his team prepare for war. Today, Marvel is pleased to present your first look inside UNCANNY X-MEN #6 - the start of the Uncanny X-Men’s foray into Apocalypse Wars! Writer Cullen Bunn and artist Ken Lashley take you on a mission to save the life of one of the founding X-Men!
Years ago when Archangel first met Apocalypse, he was transformed into the homicidal Horseman of Death. Now, years later, it appears he may be again returning to that form. Psylocke has discovered a vacant, drone-like Archangel in the guise of Death once more. Fearing the worst, that her once lover is under the control of Apocalypse – she and the rest of the Uncanny X-Men embark on a mission to save Archangel’s life. But what they are about to uncover is far more horrifying than they could have imagined…
The quest for Archangel begins this April as Apocalypse Wars comes to UNCANNY X-MEN #6!
Angel has one of the worst powers. He can fly. Whoop-die fucking do. Meanwhile, we have other people who can fly, but also have super strength/move other objects/control weather/destroy galaxies/do something else besides fly. Oh, and they don’t need giant wings to do so. His powers are so lame, they had to enhance him with metal wings. They then had to grant him a secondary mutation. But spraying perfume on shit doesn’t stop it from stinking.
“Since I can morph into people… Can I just morph into Jennifer Lawrence the entire movie? Mystique was always a bad ass in the comics right? Sweet. I’ll be the leader of the X-people then.”
I don’t mind Mystique being an X-Man, but I do have a problem with her being a second-in-command. Her and Hank should be equals in the movie, they’re the longest running X-Men in this continuity so her taking a leadership role shouldn’t be on the cards.
But honestly I don’t care, I just wanted to them to focus on the other characters this time around. If Bryan Singer went ahead with DoFP to sorta wipe the slate clean, then why make the same dumb fundamental decisions that plagued past movies?
They’ve gotta focus on Jennifer Lawrence more because she’s pulling her creative clause or whatever, and if they don’t, the crazy bitch will say it’s entirely because they were being sexist against her for being a woman, and not at all for acting like a crazy bitch for trying to like change continuity on something that’s been around for more than twice as long as she’s been alive.
I’m not a stickler for comic continuity being matched on-screen, but I think certain core elements that makes the X-Men standout should always be present. First Class didn’t really need Wolverine and DoFP used him much less than the first three X movies. Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t need a shit load of screen time, just spread that out for the characters who need it.
Not every person in the movie should be expendable blank faces who could be replaced by the time the next movie comes around. Build those character relationships, actually have dialogue where they’re taking to each other like friends and teammates. When the Avengers movies have a better team dynamic than the X-Men, you know you fucked-up.
