I will just take the 1 u have ready and see how I like it. Thanks
Im going to make a strong recommendation for eczangief’s gates. Pretty solid. Just got mine, and the hadokens and tatsus are a flyin. Thanks bro.
i want a round gate.
already received the round gate , i’ll try it out as soon as i get off from work thanks!
btw your in box is full
Fixed the inbox situation many thanks for the heads up.
In the future if anyone runs into that feel free to AIM me and I’ll help you out there.
I’ll go premium soon hopefully, and solve some of the problems that way ;]]
Interested in one of your round JLF gates. Any estimate as to when your next batch will be ready?
The next batch may take a up to 2 weeks before they’re ready to ship, since my main source for Octo-gates is out of stock at the moment. I’ll see what I can do.
Oh ya, to everyone who ordered gates from the last batch, they have shipped, so expect them midweek.
Since a couple places are out of stock (of the octos that I base my rounds on), I’m still delayed with the upcoming batch.
These are the people who this effects so far:
Maoi (2x)
Azn Xtc (1)
IIDX advocate (1)
Every Emotion (2x)
I will do this batch asap, it should be w/in a week. None of you have paid yet-- so I will contact you once I have my starter gates in hand and can begin work on them.
Since there will be more time between this and the last batch, I’ll probably do a double-sized one.
Just wanted to update everyone. Thanks!
I received my gate a few days ago, and I’m sold. It’s much better than the last circle gate I had, it was on center, it looked great, it feels great. Now my only wish is that the throw could be shorter, but that’s a technical limitation. Sure, I could use the ultimate mod with electric tape, but it feels gooey and mushy xD I dunno ezzangief, maybe sometime you could find a way to make these things as short of a throw of a square gate. For my taste, at least, the throw is a bit much. Ah, I can only dream.
eczangief, you should start making these out of the 2 way gate. you can get a much smaller throw that way and people will have an option of which one to buy.
GREAT idea!! xmetal, i’m in for 2 of those eczangief
received group shipment, all standards installed. comments; new technique far superior. i gave the last batch an “A” rating, so this one is “A+”
status on custom hori round gate, this is a tekken 5 ps2 i’m building
excellent work eczangief!
also just so you know, the smaller throw on the circle makes the engage zone for the diagonals very small. i noticed at least for me, that i miss tem sometimse. you can counteract this by putting paper in the switches of the jlf to reduce overall engage distance and increase engage zone, like in per’s mod.
^^
XM could you clarify what you mean? You talk about the “smaller throw” of the circle making diagonals difficult, but I thought your critique of mine was that you felt it had a bit much in the throw department?
Even with Sanwa’s official JLW circular gate, the diagonals are hard to hit, although as far as I’m concerned its a physical limitation of the way the levers are staggered. With my original o-gate, which I used on and off for years, I never noticed difficulty with the corners that was any more prominent that any other round gate-- JLW, iL, Happ/Wico p360 or otherwise. Anyway, please let me know your take on this so I can make a better product. :]
As for drilling them out of a 2-way-- the only problem there is that I don’t drill them at all, even with the Octagon style gates I use. I looked at the round gates that people had made over the years and drew some conclusions about the various methods one could use to tackle this problem, and I came up with the only method that I think satisfies people’s desire for a perfectly round, centered, and smooth gate at a decent price. The method being, using hand-tools, patience, good measurements and a keen eye.
What I’ll likely do is keep making them the way I do, but in addition, try my hand a a custom molded actuator, with a wider footprint where it comes in contact with the restrictor. Another option would be a simple slip tubing that can be added to the actuator-- I also agree that the electrical tape method doesn’t do justice to the high quality parts.
^ oh i didn’t mean your gate since you use an octo. i meant if you were to make the gate with the smaller throw, the diagonals will start to be a problem. i had that problem when i made my own gate out of a 2-way restrictor. does that answer your question?
Yup, I thought that might’ve been what you meant. Feel free to hit me up on AIM or MSN (eczangief@hotmail.com) if you want to help me brainstorm on making these better. I’m interested in how your 2-way custom turned out.
Wow, I never thought about diagonals being a bit hard to hit. It makes sense now that you mention it. I never get an issue hitting diagonals with your gate, thankfully. =) The custom molded actuator sounds like a fantastic idea, and so does the slip tubing. Whenever you do decide to do this, please tell me as I’d be happy to be your first customer and provide constructive feedback. =)
Here’s a bit on restrictors from Slag Coin:

What makes circular and octagonal gates a catch-22 is that what makes the diagonals easily hittable IS the larger throw. So it’s a trade-off, a physical limitation of joysticks as they’re being made now. Not at all knocking any manufacturer, because it is a necessary trade-off-- I’m just trying to do the best I can in order to offer a circular gate that is smooth and functions without a hitch on any JLF.
I really do appreciate everyone’s input, and take every idea into consideration.
Things on my list right now are:
-
a custom ‘fatter’ actuator, designed reduce throw on the JLF
-
round gates for the LS-56-- also would be compatible with the LS-55/33 models.
-
providing a kit to add levered microswitches to any JLF, as well as offering a variety of microswitches with different engage strengths.
Hmm, so it is.
You can get me on AIM then.
I’ll be away until Monday-- bachelor party. Status report on the current batch when i return.
