if you dont like the box get a sanwa stick with a octagonal restrictor. because its a square restrictor on it now. but, if you liek the bat, you can switch the ball for a bat too on a sanwa, but i dont know if you can on a happ. i like sanwa stuff better, you can feel the gateways in my opinion so my execution is pretty good with sanwa stuff.
I would like the sanwa with the ball and everything, but I just want it to be on a circular (like the american perfect 360, not octagonal) axis. Is that possible?
The seimitsus, I understand, feel somewhat-circular by way of their rounded corners, but it is still a square gate for sure. What you’re after, and I’m pretty sure someone will prove me wrong, does not exist or is very difficult to come by.
The Sanwa JLW-TM-8 and JLW-UM-8 are capable of using a circular gate (the GT-0) according to Akihabara Shop. I don’t know how well they work for fighting games though.
Noel, did you get the parts yet? I can’t wait till my stick is done :wgrin:
for the JLF joystick you have only a few variations in movement options: 2 way, 4 way, 8 way square, 8 way octagonal. if you’re looking for a truly round feeling the closest thing would be the octagonal but even that has it’s downsides but better than square if someone is looking for it. like Henry said, the JLW series does have a round restrictor plate, I havent used them personally to say how it works but it is available. Another option is the Seimitsu LS-32 which feels as smooth as the sanwa with the octagon restrictor in the corners but is still based on a square design.
Henry: Parts have left japan, I should have them in the next couple of days or so keeping in mind that today is a national holiday (canada) so things will not move today at all even if they arrive.
If anyone has used the circular restricter can they please post their thoughts about it so I can make a decision whether to order one of these sticks or not (for the next batch made)? Please and thank you.
its seriously the best fucking thing ever, because you can literally feel the direction that you are in. so there is very little error with your motions. trust me on this its amazing, all my friends who have played with my stick love how you know where you are on the stick.
If you get a jap stick it has to be JLW-TM-8 and JLW-UM-8 for the circular restrictor to fit. Bat tops suck on jap sticks. the shaft on jap sticks are shorter and feel weird with a bat top compared to an american stick such as the p36o. If you are buying a jap stick and getting a bat top you should just get an american stick. if you go the jap with bat top route you will have to relearn how to play and adapt to that stick. I think jap ball tops are the best. You can do all moves more consistantly, quicker, and effortlessly. so if you must have a circle gate and bat top you should just buy an american stick but if you are willing to take the time to learn a jap stick with an oct gate should be good. I realize this isn’t the feeling for everyone. I love using my mas for mvc2, but everything else 3d and 2d i feel jap sqaure gate is the best way to go. but you can’t really go wrong man. just get balltop bat top square and oct plate prob like 20 bucks for all that and see what works for you. I’m not saying that bat tops on sanwas don’t play good or shouldn’t be used just that you should be prepared to learn how to play on something new cuz it won’t feel like the american sticks youv’e played on.
and for sure get an oct gate… if you like circle type you would prob really like an oct gate even maybe learn to appreciate the grooves and prefer over circle.
hope I helped a little.
Later
been very busy lately! not so much with the arcade/stick business but more so taking care of the family business. Since I am back to the shop now we can start anytime now and that goes for anyone else too… if someone wants something made I have a few spots open as of friday.
For others who have been waiting on parts to complete their sticks, parts arrived wednesday so I will be working hard to try to get a whole bunch of them out early next week if all goes smoothly
mio
I have the round GT-O plate on my Sanwa JLW-UM-8 (it fits the JLW-TM-8 also). All I can say is I LOVE IT! If you like balltop go with a JLW-TM-8 otherwise get a JLW-UM-8 if you like the battop. Personally, I love to play with bat.
