Wreck it Ralph: Good, or Bad?

Alarm clock from Disney rewards. I told my wife that we could only get
it if it was Ralph slamming his hamhands in North Star style into some
bells.

i like the concept of it! seems pretty retro

I cracked up because I too thought it was a SF reference…it still ended up being Turbo-tathic

Paperman makes me want to be a “papermancer” (What??) just to summon hordes of paper airplanes for any reason really.

SPOILER TAGS, people.

I really enjoyed this movie. I only went to see it for the video game characters and it really pulled in. All around fun movie.

i just got back from seeing it, and although it was a great movie, as a lifelong gamer i cant help but be disappointed that 75% of the movie was taking place in “generic candy world” rather than that of the videogame world. its obviously a problem with the basic plot of the movie and is something that would not have been easily fixed with just say a location swap or something like that. Games are at the point now where they have such a rich history behind them and almost endless references and in jokes that could be possible, and instead the writers just decided to base almost the whole movie in a location that has literally nothing to do with videogames.

dont get me wrong, it was a good movie, and the first 30 mins or so are amazing with all the character cameos and references to games (and the end credits were great too), but the issues i mentioned above keep it from being a fantastic movie rather than a very good one.

also i thought the bison quote “going turbo” was reference to sf2 turbo as well. streetfighter probably got the best representation in that movie than any other game. also i liked the car bonus stage bit in the credits.

one part i did really find funny was [details=Spoiler]in the heros duty game right at the start, when the “first person shooter” got brought into the fight and into a primo spot, and it was basically the chicks job to hold their hand and baby them through this massive war, all the while spouting off totally cliche sayings and patting them on the back all the while everyone else is dying miserably all around them.[/details]

Dude…WTF are you doing!?

Holy flying fuck of fuckness. Spoiler tag dis shit pplz.

All about tanion spoiling all the key moments… GG

Generally I was satisfied! Go watch it, theres plenty of nostalgia, yet the movie is so touching.

Even though the movie should have used the cameos as actual voiced characters that play integeral parts to the movie, I liked it.

However, Fix it Felix is such an obscure game for people 1990+, If they used an already made game, I wonder why they didn’t actually use a more popular retro game. Bad Guy Zangief, could have been it instead of Wreck it Ralph, it’s not like they created Ralph or anything so I wonder why it centred on these obscure titles about characters most people don’t care about. Why wasn’t the girl soldier, Kerrigan or Chun-Li, or like, Cortana. Hero’s Duty seemed like it should have been replaced with Halo.

I guess my deal is if you’re gonna license all these games and put a game movie that will be watched by tons of gamers, use the damn characters. I don’t care about these 4 people, Ralph, Venellope, etc, I want to see Ryu, M. Chief, Shepard, Snake, Mario. Atleast have them be more occuring, which I think a sequel or something should fix that up. But I did like the cast’s synergy and Sarah Silverman did do a cute job with long named girl.

But damn I want to see the special features for this film if it hits DVD.

Did what roger rabbit did with cameos, light dressing, settig a mood, nostaglia, gags

The main 4 characters got their time to shine. Just making a movie using multiple characters can’t work

Maybe a kingdom hearts animated series could work.

They are already thinking about what they would do for a sequel if given a chance.

Debates over which cartoon characters are fuckable or not never fail to make me laugh. :woot:

My God. Saw this last night. If you’re an old school gamer, and/or if you ever loved arcades… you owe it to yourself to see this movie. Best videogame movie ever.

Fix-it-Felix is not a real game. They DID create Ralph. Disney created a cabinet for Fix-it-Felix Jr. based on the movie, but the game itself never existed before the movie. The whole point is to create a new intellectual property that is neutral and that nobody has pre-determined bias about. If they used Halo or Starcraft, people already have their own opinions about those games and will go into the movie with certain expectations (good or bad). Plus, the money it would cost Disney to actually utilize main characters from existing games and essentially alter their storyline to include Ralph and Felix would likely be too high to be worth the cost. A cameo is much cheaper by comparison.

Not to mention, Hero’s Duty is an obvious play on Halo and Call of Duty.

The point of the movie is not for you to see a movie about your favorite video game characters. It’s about showing you a world, kind of like Monsters Inc. did, about where those characters go and the world they live in, and the struggles they face regardless of player interaction.

Please don’t forget that it’s a Disney movie, so it has to have a plot with character development and a moral that kids and teens can take away with them when they leave the theater. It is harder to make an audience relate to a character that already exists and that they’ve already experienced than it is to get them to relate to one that’s fresh and new and that we’re seeing for the first time. Disney just does a really good job making them feel old-school by putting them in an 8-bit game and giving the characters from that game very mechanical movements (except Ralph and, to a lesser extent, Felix). But in essence it’s a coming-of-age story, a story about finding yourself. And as I was saying before, it’s much easier to effectively convey that message with a blank slate character than with a pre-existing videogame character.

I’m not trying to lecture here, but it just bothers me when people expect something different from what the movie even aimed to accomplish in the first place.

Daft Punk was already taken for Tron: Legacy =/

And to be honest, Skrillex is in most video games these days. Even new Ridge Racer…

Another thing I’ve noticed… Pixar has very bad taste in music. People loved those Randy Newman songs from Toy Story so Pixar thinks they can get away with anything for the soundtracks…

Yeah I figured that out earlier, so forget that part, but I see your point.

Perhaps a video game collab should be taken on by a more mature oriented developer.

Skrillex is in the new Black Ops 2 too.

Skrillex is my hero!
