Would you mind waiting another year if Capcom could add 50+ characters?

i agree with you there. i just meant in my original comment on it that IMO, mvc3 doesnt exactly NEED these things to feel like marvel. but i digress, this is way offtopic. i dont wanna wait another year for this game, i want it NAO

I like what OP is saying, he’s not saying take another year and slap in 20 or so chars in the game, he’s saying that as is now they’re gonna hella balance this game out, so why not take another year, add in how many ever characters they can and balance it just a little further.

To those saying “then most of the cast won’t get played” well, that’s what the extra balance is for. It’ll be like Super in the sense of, you don’t play who’s good, you play who you want to play, the people who are your favorite. I do that as is now in MVC2, and while I’m not competing at high levels or doing good at any low tier tournaments, I’m contending quite well, and even in Vanilla 4, I did pretty good sticking with Ken and not switching to who ever was the FOTM char.

More characters does not a better game make…

didn’t you guys learn ANYTHING from MvC2?

This

Hell no. Adding more characters isn’t going to make it a better game. It could have 500 characters in it, and you’d still only see about 10 of them after the first few months.

people complaining about the number of characters in this game need only to look at SSF4, because i guarantee you those that are complaining about the number of characters in MVSC3 are in this very group. initially after release there was a pretty diverse selection of players online just experimenting with characters, but after 3 days, what do you see? Ken. Ryu. Juri. Dudley. ibuki. guy. that brings up two points.

  1. 4 of the most popular characters online right now are new to the game. so out of the 10 new characters, 4 are very popular. lesson: dont get so caught up in your nostalgia and demands that you shut out the new possibilities this game can bring. seeing as how no one has seen any of MVSC3 this seems like a stupid thing to do, but it is done. alot.

  2. 6 characters online. and im being generous with ibuki and guy. and this is only out of a cast of 35 characters. what the hell do people think theyre going to do with a cast of 50+ characters?

the same damn thing. there will be a fraction of the cast that is ultimately used whether there are 30 or 100 characters. why should they waste their time adding more characters only to make that fraction smaller and smaller? its a waste of time and money. 30 is a good solid number and if the game is balanced well, they should all be able to get their play competitively.

I love how no one here seems to realise that Capcom is a business first and foremost. No also seems to know how business works, either. Otherwise this ridiculous topic wouldn’t have been made.

^^ this

Possibly. You never know until the game comes out. You could look at Tekken 5 and Tekken 6. Although a few are in the top tier, there are still many that are tournament-worthy. Look at tourney videos from Korea, and you wont just see the top tier characters doing well in tournaments. Guilty Gear was another example of this. MvC2 was different in that the top tier was VERY distinguished from the rest of the cast (although there are some strong low-tier anti-magneto teams, most of the low tier just can’t deal with the top-tier’s runaway/keepaway tactics). Adding more character may not make it a better game, but imagine this…S-Kill has said they want to squeeze in as many characters as they could before MvC3’s release. Say Winter 2011 comes around and they have to leave out a Magneto, or a Sentinel, a character with a Commando-like assist. Think how much different a game would be without these types of characters/assists. I’m not saying Capcom should spam characters and add characters for the sake of adding characters. But I think that they should take their time to add whatever characters they originally intended to, and not let time-constraints dictate what they do with their product.

Again, every game will have different amounts of tournament -worthy characters. I’m not talking about online popularity either…there were thousands of Ken’s online in SF4, yet he was rarely seen used by solid tourney players. What characters were solid at the SF4 tourney level? Rufus, E. Honda, Ryu, C. Viper, Sagat, Akuma, Seth, Sakura, Balrog, Cammy that I recall. Balance is not easy to accomplish, and MvC2 was one of the most imbalanced games they’ve made, yet one of the most complex and long-lasting. So the proportion of usable characters vs non-usable characters doesn’t mean much in reality because many games with great balance are long dead, and Marvel 2, with horrible balance, is still around today. But like I said above…they shouldn’t add character just to add characters. But at the same time they shouldn’t cut corners on their intended roster because they were hoping to sell the game by Spring '11 either.

If they keep it a small number around 3 3 0r 39 will do. I want to see a game where even a bush league character still has a chance to drop a high tier one. Nothing sucks more than an onslaught of decent and below average characters dying trying to climb the hill we call practical use. Capcom shouldn’t be trying to overload this game at all if all the characters are well made and have varying styles of play and usage.

it seems like there is some people that think that mvc3 characters will have the exact same movesets and combos as in mvc2. i dont think thats likely to be the case, since were getting so many new characters to the vs series, i can see everyone getting updated moves. and even if returning characters keep the same moves, you have to factor that this game is going to be in 2.5d, so some things will be just simply impossible to carry over to mvc3.

As long as it’s 30 balanced characters, it’s already a better roster variety than MvC2. Even if it had 80+ characters, doesn’t matter if over 80% of them aren’t worth using.

No not another year , it’s only been like say 10 years…I mean one year give or take makes no difference lol ha

I can wait that they make everything else right and complete but there’s no point of having 50+ characters. We need big variety of different type of characters but there’s really no point of having 50+ characters and 5 different playstyles. Variety is much needed.

arent we waiting another year?

I think just having the staple characters from the respective companies will be fine, a cast around 30-40 and as long as it’s fairly balanced. I pretty much agree with the general opinion that there is no point in having all these characters added that will never be used because they suck and can’t compete at all.

Not everything revolves around tournament or competitive play. What I like about MvC2 is the fun atmosphere it carries compared to the more serious SF. I love having low-tier matchups with my mates, fighting with useless characters like Amingo, Anarkis and Jill Valentine. I’d love it if they could have the 30-40 balanced roster for the serious, tournament types, then add the 15-20 weak, but humourous characters for some mucking around?

Problem is not everyone’s going to see it that way and will complain that those 15-20 “weak” characters need to be buffed, especially after they lose to a team of higher tiered characters online.

more characters = more bullshit

40 seems like fairgame…20 from each side

you all tend to forget that not everyone from MVC2 will make the cut, including fan favorites…

they want new not reused…

I honestly don’t think that Marvel 3’s roster is being affected at all by Marvel 2.
