the best part of marvel is low tier. having a big unbalanced roster facilitates that.
I’d wait 100 years if that’s how long it’s gonna take to add Aunt May into the game. She’s gonna be OP as fuck!!!

9001 years.
These comments about a roster of 30 are laughable. I would be completely underwhelmed if this amount were in the game.
In this day and age of modern games, how could we settle for 30 if we had 56? I honestly expected 75 to 80 characters in this game.
What happened to the initial comments about how we would be blown away by the sheer number of characters?
Getting a roster of about 30 would be truly pathetic. TvC-like. Someone mentioned about how new fighters don’t get this many characters; if MvC3 is done right, we should have at the very least three on three matches and 30 just wouldn’t be Marvel-like.
30 is actually alot compared to the number of characters in other fighters. Besides, as long as it’s a good game, who gives a fuck?
Besides, 30 isn’t the final number.
Exactly!
Besides, there are a couple of characters i wouldn’t mind they took out.
wow the poll is even…
I could wait.
Super Street Fighter IV had 35… We are no longer limited by space.
Those games weren’t limited by space (well, maybe up to MvC1, which maxed out the CPSII board) so much as they were limited by time. Time is still the crucial factor, because time = money. MvC2 only got the enormous cast it did because it recycled characters from about 7 different games. MvC3’s cast is being built mostly from scratch. Unless they plan to reuse all the Capcom characters from TvC - extremely unlikely, since the preliminary list already has the likes of Dante/Nero, Felicia, and Trish), the majority of the cast will be completely new, and even though models might not be as time consuming to make as sprites, they still don’t take zero time to create, test, balance, etc.
No doubt putting in 30 characters is going to be aggressive for a Spring 11 launch. They’re not going to wait an extra year or two to bring up the cast up to MvC2’s numbers because time = money, and the extra time spent making the cast larger better probably wouldn’t be worth the cost of not selling the game sooner.
Maybe Capcom is bullshitting us about the character total. After all, at one point we were led to believe the DC version of MvC2 would only have 40 characters in it compared to the arcade’s 56. But assuming the “about 30 characters” is legit, don’t expect more than, say, 32, simply because creating characters takes time.
They ALREADY have 30 characters done. So this means MORE are to come.
Super Street Fighter 4 has 35 characters. In no way will Capcom let this game have less characters than Super Street Fighter 4. Capcom has already stated this will be “the most epic fighting game ever.”
I would expect between 38-45 characters in this game.
Didn’t Street Fighter 4 just start off with like 19 characters? Its kind of faulty comparing Super Street Fighter 4 to MvC3 in those regards.
I can wait another year, hell… year and a half for another 50 characters. But like what s-kill said the sprites from Mvc2 came from previous games so all they had to do was add in new gameplay mechanics and boom the game was created. Aside from the uber simplicity that might take place on the control scheme, I’m def looking forward and will be purchasing MVC3.
I’d wait an extra year for a more balanced, polished game with 30+ characters…I wouldn’t want to wait an extra year just so they could throw in MORE characters, which would then possibly throw off the balance of the game.
I would wait, I’m pretty sure it isn’t gonna be THAT balanced either way so why not wait.
seems hypocritical that some people would demand as high as 70-80 characters when they know they’re only gonna play about a handful of them. People want a huge variety of characters to punch around.
Considering this may turn out to be in the vein of TvC, can the hardware even handle having 30 characters or more going at it? I doubt it. Personally… I’m all for having 25 characters, with 5 leftovers, at best. I want them to be unique and bring in characters we haven’t seen before combined with those we liked originally.
MvC3 shoulda happened awhile ago. If I have to wait another year, it should be best spent on quality on the production, not fanservice by adding every SF mainstay.
I think it should have more than 35 characters, just for posterity.
Theres no way an SF game(SSFIV) should have a bigger roster than a VS game.
35 sounds good too. I don’t like the idea of having character variants of each other like the other one had: orange Hulk, mech Zangief, etc. I’m thinking they can pull a CvS2 and bust out some classic and obscure characters into the mix for a newer age - Retsu from SF1, or someone from Forgotten Worlds.

Seth Killan said in this interview to expect more then 30 charcters
WHAT?? only 30 characters SUCKS for a Marvel game! but if it I hope we can all agree on this being a great line-up if it happens to just be 30 (it lets some other great characters shine as well)-
