The only problem with 8 was the abusable junction system, but that still made the game more fun. FF8 also had Triple Triad, which alone was a better game than FF9. Playing FF8 I wanted to venture out and do every sidequest. Playing FF9 I just wanted to beat the game so I didn’t waste my time and money.

Stiner was better then the entirety of 8.
It does not matter who points out anything about it being a shitty opera.
FF8 was fucking terrible with a engine that worked against itself at every turn.

They were all good in my opinion – I just felt, as a game, 9 was one of the best. /shrug/

Vagrant Story was the best PS1 RPG imo, but that’s a different discussion entirely.

Firstly, what examples of muscular women are there in “mainstream” games? Secondly, even if that was a mainstay of the mainstream, what about Cerebella isn’t muscular? Third, Skullgirls is chock full of gore and explosions. Of the qualifiers you listed I’m pretty sure Skullgirls hits at least as much as something like sf4, or mk, and outside the genre cod and halo have even less correlation what with the 0 women throughout. Maybe the real reason Skullgirls isn’t selling that well (not sure if that’s even true) is because the barrier of entry, or the saturation of the market, or the other unappealing things to people not familiar with fighting games, 8 characters comes to mind…

My girlfriend works at a middle school and I interact her students on a pretty frequent basis. I cannot really tell them about the game because of a lot the art style decisions that were made because it would be threading unknown territory and neither her nor I want to flirt with getting fired over a video game. I know there are students who would like the game very much but Valentine’s character design by itself makes it so that I don’t talk to kids about the game. This is a honest to god fucking shame because the gameplay is fantastic.

Don’t get me wrong I am happy that Mike Z and Alex Ahad got to do what they wanted. But by the same token those stylistic choices have a lot of secondary detrimental effects towards the overall product. Its whatever though; people who don’t think that even top players enjoy the character design at some emotional level are working really hard at lying to themselves.

I don’t see the difference between Valentine and ST Cammy or even SF4 Cammy’s intro sequence where the camera is panned on her ass. I think her outfit is also subject for debate in the same regards. I personally don’t see anything wrong with the outfit but I wouldn’t be surprised if other people thought it was offensive. The same thing could be said with Viper’s 1st and 3rd alternate costumes.

Kuja was like an infant Sephiroth. It was like one of those old cliche cartoon episodes where all the characters are turned to toddlers and the bad guy’s evil plot is similarly childish. Sure, characters died, but their demise wasn’t as visceral and Kuja’s aims and methods were not nearly as sinister as anything in 8. FF9, as I said before, was like a G rated Disney fairy tale - very shallow and to the point - where FF8 had considerably more depth, dealt with many more themes, and had many more revelations to keep the story progressing. There was also very little attachment to the characters in the FF9 as none of them, besides maybe Vivi, had any sort of appealing back/side-story. I also have no clue where this guy is getting that FF10 had the worst story, considering that was one of the best ending revelations and certainly better than Kuja’s “okay you beat me, I’ll save you so you can all live happily ever after” sudden change of character.

In a sense that it wasn’t challenging if you knew what you were doing, yes. But I played it for the story. Turn based combat is never going to win me over. It’s the same thing with Baiten Katos.
