Thank god. The abuse of divrkicks by Rufus and Yun players in SFIV is retarded, even on the high level play. Just look at the shit Kazunoko was doing to Daigo a few months ago
i thought it was the command throw and Kaz oki, was what Daigo had problems with on top of Yun burst come back damage. But yeah Daigo, THE spacing master, could not stop a dive kick. okay…
Yun’s dive kick is pretty different from the ones in V. It’s a meterless dive kick that he can alter trajectory and recovery for which skews the risk/reward for anti airing and jumping in heavily in Yuns favor. That’s why there will be no Yun style dive kicks in SFV. It’s not just because they don’t want to, they legitimately don’t want a character that can take control of the air that well while also having that good of a ground game.
In games like SFIV and V there’s no strong OS parry type deal to deal with those dives without putting in a lot of risk that’s not in your favor. That’s why SFV dive kicks are very much neutered and nothing has the angle, bait and recovery options that a Yun or Rufus dive does. They’re a lot more committal. Chun Li’s IALL is probably the closest, but it still has much longer startup compared to Yun’s dive so it’s much easier to AA even when done at the lowest height. It doesn’t have the ability to force top players to jump in the air to A2A it or avoid it like Yun does.
If you watch what Pepeday’s Fuerte would make Daigo do in SFIV it’s pretty dumb also. He has Daigo literally resorting to jumping around and hitting buttons to try and play neutral game against him. When a character forces you to go the air for that long of time it’s just not a good look for SF.
When it comes to the purely competition aspect of what’s going on, sure it’s just whoever is the better man in SFIV or any game. It’s just forcing people to guess between jumping forward and diving meterlessly all the time just generally favors the dive kicker much more than the anti airer in that game.
