Worm.Win32.Netsky

Just as a heads up, you can also set your computer to boot to Safe Mode from within your current boot. Do the following:

Start > Run > enter “msconfig” > select the Boot.ini tab > check the box next to “Safeboot”

When you restart your machine it’ll boot straight to Safe Mode. When you’re done in Safe Mode, redo the process and just uncheck the box next to Safeboot. Then it’ll boot back to normal mode.

I tried the safe mode and Ad-aware which eliminated the multiple spyware. Unfortunately, there’s a Trojan and few other items that it can’t seem to delete, and those are the ones that keep making more of the same spam when I put it back in regular mode. It’s like a endless cycle because the worm can’t seem to be detected.

ARRRGGGH!!!

as was suggested before, there are tons of forums where people can read hijackthis logs for you and tell you exactly what you need to do. If the safe mode solution isnt working, i think its a logical next step.

i had this exact problem.

obtain a copy of Spyware doctor do a full scan(if u have the free ver u need to del the things by yourself the paided ver does it automatic) then do scan with spybot S&D. this got rid of my problem and my computer hasnt shown any signs of this thing comming back

btw turn off system restore

I think I may have to do that but…

Maybe this is the problem, how do I turn it off?

Here are some directions for turning off System Restore if you weren’t sure how to go about doing it.

Edit: Wow, I must be psychic or something.

such a simple fix it’s pathetic.

1)back up your shit BUT before you do so, run a scan on everything. trans to external hdd or internal using a hdd enclosure (works like an external also better choice & money saver in imo)

2)do a destructive restore. start from scratch

  1. stop being stupid by trying to eradicate the virus only. not only do you tinker with the registry but you leave behind remnants of corrupted or irrecoverable data on the OS which can work against you. think of it this way for simplicity: if you know what relapse means then you’ll understand.

4)take my suggestions as something helpful or piss off and help yourself by doing something dumb. I only do this for a living as my side job since chumpusa shut down but also do my real job as well (tech)

5)after starting from scratch dont download bullshit progs like spybot & adaware; they are spy/adware in general. if you want a good program either get webroot spysweeper w/antivirus or the same but with the addition of its firewall. that’s all you really need. additionally, dont use IE as your browser. only use it for windwos updates and direct x updates. nothing more. use alternative browsers instead. a buddy here (yeahdood120) has an extensive thread for firefox and its many uses w/extensions that is helpful otherwise you can also use opera.

6)just my 2cents

7)i’m done

Any proof of this? I haven’t had ANY problems with Ad-aware. Never used spybot.

i really doubt that any IT person who has dealt with viruses before would say Spybot sucks. adaware is cool but not the best

almost all the anti virus programs u have to pay for are garbage… there are a few good ones tho mcafee is great if u have it set up correctly

When I used Windows, I always liked to have Spybot installed. Sometimes it was glitchy trying to update it, but I always thought it did a decent job and was worth having. Ad-Aware is garbage, though. I’ve never before used a program that had so many problems just running scans… or that did such a shitty job when it was actually able to pull them off. Granted, I’m hardly a professional and I have absolutely nothing to back this up aside from my personal experiences with running both applications on a few different machines.

Adaware and Spybot both catch things that the other doesn’t.

Spybot runs faster though.

a good way (what i use but usually overkill)

1 - my personal favorite is to take out the hdd and put it in another pc as a slave / usb enclosure and scan from there. of course you run the risk of corrupting the new pc. for me it’s simple because i always re-image my test box after fixing someones hdd. avg and spybot are both nice. nod32 is cool. hijack this is VERY awesome if you know what you’re doing.

2 - this one doesn’t require another pc but it’s hard to keep updated. bartpe and other livecd tools (google it) lets you create a windows livecd. in this live cd you can have whatever you want in terms of apps. excellent way to isolate the system you want to scan without using another pc. this one i’ve never done personally but have seen it in action.
