Work Log: Dreamcast Innovation Arcade Stick Repair and Mod

How about some new microswitches for it?

Nice work all!

As more people get retrosticks to mod or buy Dreamcast hardware for their DC, this will become the Go-To FAQ for the DC Innovation Arcade Stick.

Nice to see the guts of the old are being spilled open to see what can be salvaged or fixed in out-of-production joysticks.

There are real chestnuts there in some of the old joysticks from the 1990s besides the enshrined Namco Stick…
(I still don’t get why people love that stick so much. I had two of them 12 years ago. Never personally cared for them that much, and they were extra gear I got next-to-nothing for when I chocked all my remaining PS1 games at a Software Etc… IF I’d had the foresight to have kept them and sold them here…!)

Worth mentioning :
there ALREADY was a stick in existence with exact same 6 button layout as seen later with the Innovation REAL dreamcast stick which also ripped off the classic SNK NEO-AEC stick design…
The iMP EX9800 Intelligent Universal Controller for Megadrive&Snes ( a 6 button version of the 3 button iMP mega power stick see below), which had an additional slider for turbo mode and LEDs for the action buttons+power.
Notice even the optional buttons have same layout as the Innovation.
Stick inside is also a clone of the AEC one.

forum thread with pics of EX9800 guts which clearly show the lever is similar to AEC :

It means the Innovation REAL ripped off directly the iMP EX9800 minus the slider and LEDs.

3 button version iMP “Super 328 II Intelligent Mega Power Stick” , also ripped off from SNK AEC stick has a 3-button layout lifted from Megadrive official gamepad for a hybrid SEGA/SNK final design.
optional buttons layout similar to SNK model but white , there is also a turbo slider as in 6-button iMP model.
