With the poverty rate increasing, cancer rate increasing, overpopulation, stagnation of culture, overexposure of products/services that are capitalistic in nature, will WE still be alive? no. i say we will be over medicated, under nourished, under educated, over stimulated, over entertained shells of what we are now, and a faint notion of what we were. Thats about 6 elections from now. nothing will change drastically for the better. no, im not being pessimistic, just a realist based on my 28 years of being alive. The forces of wealth and control keep entrenching themselves deeper and deeper and dividing us farther and farther apart from each other. Is there a “shared” notion of dread? yup. The you know how an animal senses when its threatened? thats how we feel, we are no different than the beasts in the jungle. the noosphere is real. we are threatened, by our own selves. Our jungle is different, we are our own prey.

This absolutely. If I ever have kids, which is a very low possibility, it would definitely be no more than two(and adoption past that point or even to start with). I remember an srk thread on here asking about how many kids would you want to have, and there was a poster who said “at least four”. I almost threw up at how utterly selfish that was.
As far as overpopulation, a few suggestions:

In places where the population is supposed to be increasing the most, step up the sexual education programs. It’s not enough just to give people condoms or bc pills, you have to actually do some in-depth monitoring and follow up to see how the program is proceeding as well as thoroughly educating the populace on birth control. It’s bad enough you have dumbass catholic missionaries telling people condoms don’t work, or encouraging free license to reproduction(“Be fruitful and multiply”). You also have to work against long-standing cultural practices that encourage big families.

Dry up incentives for single mothers to prosper. I know this is a hard one to swallow, but giving women free money for children, and more money per child, is NOT the way to go to address the problem of women having children when they aren’t even ready for ONE child.(This is nothing against single mothers who actually take care of their children and do what they’re supposed to do.)

This is a bad idea, because all it will end up doing is fucking over children who are already fucked to begin with. Kids don’t deserve to be punished for their parents’ uselessness.
The same way poor people don’t necessarily deserve their fate. Even then, what you subsidize, you beget. You subsidize people not working, you get people who don’t work. You subsidize stuff like oil, you get some. That’s just the way of the world.
I can guarantee you there’ll be less of those children who are fucked to begin with once the spigot dries up for these idiots.
@Komatik: or just look at corn, we subsidize that so much they have to have massive silos to put it in and at some locations even those aren’t enough. We produce tons of it.
Also there’s this little thing called “opportunity cost”. If there is no opportunity cost to doing something, people are likely to do it. If a woman can pop out a kid and get paid for it(never having to pay it back since in most cases of aid such as TANF the cost is shifted to the father, I’m not sure if it’s the same for WIC), there’s nothing stopping her from doing it. Now when the money increases per child, she can just pop out another one, especially if she’s a useless slag who doesn’t want to work.
Remove the cash incentives, suddenly having a kid by yourself becomes a lot more risky. Now you may go on about the single mothers who end up single by some accident or other circumstance, yet those single mothers will find a way one way or the other. A hoodrat on the other hand would have to do some growing up really fast.
