I watched the trailer with sound and some of the writing was actually pretty good. In Will’s defence, I’ve heard that in “I am Legend” and “The Pursuit of Happiness” he doesn’t play his standard “Ah hellz nah, you did not just do that!!”. Maybe hes actually developing acting skills. I love how I point out that Will Smith is tight casted as the over characterized urban black guy and I get called a racist. Burn the witch! Honestly, I see very little difference between Smith’s early rap persona and his character on the “Fresh Prince”. I don’t see any selling out on his part.

I think Will is starting to take his performances to another level.
will smith is a great actor, and you just can’t hate on the fresh prince. his role of being dat fresh black dude in every movie, is simply a natural progression from his fresh prince days. that is HIS real life persona, and he doesn’t really have to act when given roles that fit it (though he is very capable of performing a broader range of roles).
i understand where rush down is coming from, but typecasting an actor to a certain role in every movie isn’t limited just to will smith because he is black. some actors have distinct personalities that lend themselves to play certain roles, and hollywood knows this. for example, johnny depp is consistently dat eccentric dude, jim carrrey is dat spaz, and van damme is dat guy doing the splits.
