And here I thought some of us would be past overgeneralizations.
Not trying to start shit, just a friendly little jab.
I have to say it doesn’t look bad. Will it be THE new flagship title? Probably not, but who said that a game had to be the biggest, most popular current thing in order to be fun? Other than the goofy looking graphics, I can’t really find too many faults with the game. They cut out quite a few of the stuff that made me hate SF4 and the pacing feels better.
If anything, I’d say the worst thing about SFxT is that it was on Cross Assault.
I know, but it’s also kinda true. We are a stubborn bunch. lol
I’m sure we’ll see a good amount of play, based on good word-of-mouth and first impressions. Whether it has longevity, that remains to be seen. I like what I’ve been seeing so far though(minus [S]Isuka[/S] Scramble Mode). Even if it doesn’t end up as the flagship title, at least we have something else to deviate ourselves from the current big two. I just hope people actually bother to put some time into this game instead of complaining about balance a month into it, something that’s been bugging me about the current scene for a while.
That… wouldn’t be a bad idea, actually. Though I’d rather have “forgotten” franchises getting new games before that happened, like Darkstalkers and Rival Schools.
SFxT as the new flagship game? Could happen, depending on how well it’s received by the fighting game community. I guess we’ll find out when EVO comes around. No way to be sure. But I am betting that Capcom wants it to be the next flagship game, and will spend quite a bit of effort to further that goal. All the marketing in the world won’t ensure the game’s success on a competitive level, though. Only the competitive community can decide that.
Being a SFIV fan, I’m very much looking forward to this game at any rate. Will likely have to wait till the 9th before I can get the game, as I’m in Europe and thus in a secondary market for video games. Thanks Capcom!
This game looks like sf4+ to me. Come on least they could have done is use a new engine. F**ing lazy.
Actually only the staff at evo can decide if the game is worthy. It doesn’t matter if it really is a better game all that matters is if it is at evo. If the game is at evo everyone will just follow it, and capcom have all ready made sure that it will be at evo. You see nowdays its not about which game is better overall its about which game gets the best advertising.
A dream crossover that has been fantasized about since we were wee little children, which has also been getting heavy praises from pros from both franchises who have spent extensive time with the it being the new flagship game? Is this a rhetorical question?
I’m mostly concerned about the pacing of the game. Slow walk speeds for a lot of people, links are considerably slower, and the wakeup game is slower (seems like a full second longer than SF4 before the person who got knocked down gets back up again). But I’m willing to assume players will figure out how to speed the game up over time, especially with wavedashes, dash cancels and such. Plus, some matchups will probably be lightning fast, while others slower… that’s just the nature of fighting games.
Re: timeouts, in SF4 you could kill people in 10 seconds or so if they made two really big errors and you had a high-stun character. Combos were pretty short and very painful, and oki was relatively quick. Even if someone takes their hand off the stick in SFxT, it seems pretty hard to kill a character in 10 seconds I think? You get similar damage off an opening, but it takes longer, then you knock them down and it takes them a while to get up. A “fast” round in SFxT will probably be 30-40 seconds long between two competent players.
I do want the game to be good, though. And I’m excited that most of the pro players have enjoyed their time with the game. That probably means that the game doesn’t suck. There’s a non-zero chance that they’re ALL wrong, but… let’s face it, it’s pretty unlikely.
BTW, kinda dislike hearing people talk about how many OSes were in SF4. OSes only trigger if you decide to not block. If you’re getting OSed every time you’re knocked down, then you’re probably doing something wrong. If you block (like every other fighting game ever), there are no OSes to worry about, and you can play the game “normally”.
Nuki once explained his expectations in a fighting game: “I’m not really asking for a game with good balance…I’m just wondering if I can get a good battle of wits from a game.” He also wishes for a new Darkstalkers or CvS game, so take that as you will. haha
Yeah they ignore option selects have been in the game since ST and all sf4 os still apply in this engine. If you os something like light shoryu and the opponent forward rolls, he can’t punish you. If you os a back jump you can probably punish or at least maintain pressure. The only difference is that you had to be god in st to perform optionselects and in this game and sf4, because the input window is so huge, everyone can do it and it requires no timing whatsoever.
Also, backashes in this game are still invincible, which is probably the scrubbiest thing in a fighting game.
